Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
I had a short, very difficult marriage and it took a couple years to be able to move on.
Then I had another partnership of less than four years and again it took a couple years to adjust.
Just three months ago, I had an incident with a lifelong dear friend who is currently not speaking to me and has cut off contact. He has left the door open to possibly resume the friendship a long time in the future, but there are no guarantees. (I wish this site had a "friend breakup" category! It's just as hard as my romantic relationship breakups--probably harder.) Three months in, I've lost 25 pounds, suffer insomnia, and can't focus at work. I've seen my therapist a half-dozen times, I've talked to friends for hours, and I've written a very long creative writing piece about my feelings, all of which have been helpful, but doesn't fix it. This morning I went to the doctor and got a prescription for a psych med to help me sleep.
It's so hard to let go because the particular person you love is irreplaceable. No one else is exactly like them. No one else can duplicate your history with them. Even if you find kind and understanding friends, and even if you can offer your love to others, it won't be the same as what you had.
It is important to go through the grief and feel the grief. It is real.
