He refuses to discuss how we will proceed on legally ending the marriage. I said, jokingly, that we could be like two of our friends who have been married and apart for years and won't divorce so they don't screw up and get married again. (My friend is actually doing it to be kind and keep the man on her health insurance, and he should be damn grateful, since he is battling cancer).
I was told by a trusted coworker that in VA it is not hard to do on one's one, just get the right forms, go to the courthouse, file them and wait for a date. She said she got them at Staple's. So I dropped $42 at Staples today for the whole works. (He owes me half of that). The clerk gave me a sad look as she checked me out and then asked if I had a reward card. I said no but he does, let's reward that MF. She started laughing. I gave her his phone number and it checked out and she asked if I wanted him to get an email about this purchase and I said Hell Yes. I was afraid I would cry over the purchase but in the end laughed.
When I am done with this really amazing set of info and forms it is free to anyone on here who can use it. I won't touch 99% of it since we don't have children together or mutual property. I have not looked at the cd yet but think that is what I truly need to do.

I think you can also file online, somehow my ex found money to pay an atty, so have at it. We don't have kids or assets so if he'd rather pay an atty vs online for cheaper, be my guest. I'm not paying one dime towards it. I guess there's a positive huh?

What is with people, their pity, and their sad faces when they find out someone is divorced? I ran into an old colleague at my son's afterschool daycare about two months ago, he asked how my h and I were, I said, "Oh, we're divorced" he immediately said, "Oh, I'm so sorry" and I said, "Why? I'm not".
It's just funny how so many people assume that there isn't a possibility someone could get divorced and be RELIEVED they did.
And Kbb, you are right, and I need to remember this to be proactive and not reactive.
TTMI you are indeed wonder woman, which I guess is who your avatar is. Here is a laugh for you. My son, who is now 26, went to a a very high end prep school in MD. And Lynda Carter, known on tv as Wonder Woman, was the mother of one of his classmates. She had a shitstorm of a life for a while. I watched her ups and downs for 9 years.. I saw her hit bottom. Her husband was a kind man and as far as I know they are still together. The laugh is that when I'd go to school PTA meetings or other things where she was present, the dads nearly snapped their necks to get a look at her and the women all sunk down in their chairs. I learned to sit up straighter and watch her just ignore everyone and focus on her son.
