I may be to picky, but if an engaged man was reaching out to me, it sounds to me like he would be a cheater and that would be enough for me. I would not want to hear any of his reasons or excuses.

Hi Il: I agree with Gem and Trying. Someone who is engaged is off the market. Since you fell in love with him, let him go right away. This is not the person for you.

Someone who tells you they are engaged, then steps up the contact to you gives me a gut feeling they are testing to see if he can be engaged and married and keep you to be an online emotional affair or even one that he can eventually fly to see. Bad guy.

But since he has not changed his facebook status and not added any pictures of his fiance, I have been wondering if he is just making up this whole engagement and fiance. That would be the only excuse I would tolerate, but then again it leads me to ask how messed up is he in the head to make that up? Love makes you do desperate things, but I never did or would do that to someone I truly care about.

Keep in mind that some get engaged and still play the field.

I guess some of what is going on would depend on what he is texting you. He may just need someone he was/is close to, to talk to right now. But you really do not know why, and so why speculate or over analyze or whatnot. If there are underlying intentions, they will show themselves sooner then later. Otherwise, he may just be reaching out to talk.

Don't occupy your mind with something that may be nothing.

It doesn't matter what is going on with him. I've read that book and can tell you the ending. Actually, there are various endings but none of them involve you and him being happy ever after. You don't love him. All you know about him is what he has told you, so how can you love him? My ex went looking for someone online 6 months before letting me know he wasnt happy. They have met a couple times cause she lives hundreds of miles away. Think they are in love. They are engaged to be married, though they don't know when for a variety of reasons. Sound familiar? All she knows is what he has told her. She doesn't know he's lied to and cheated on all of his former (3) wives. I assume she knows she will be #4, but I doubt she knows that he's already lied to and cheated on her. You are in a lose/lose situation.

If he tells you he is getting married and he is not, he is playing games and is a liar.
I don't like people who play those kind of games and I don't like people who lie. They tend to do it more and more.
