Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
My advice right now is to make two important phone calls--one to a good attorney who can help you navigate the legal route of divorce, and the other is to a caring counselor who can help put you back together emotionally.
Sending hugs!
And I wanted to let you know that things do get better! I am doing really well in my life now, and have gone through incepredible healing in the time since we split up. It does take some time, but life gets it's sparkle back again, slowly but surely! So hang in there.
I think I really started feeling significantly better about 5 months or so after our separation, but it's different for everyone. One thing that helped me immensely was cutting off all contact with my ex, other than emailing about divorce business that we needed to sort out. I never did get any closure from him, but was able to get a sense of closure on my own nonetheless.
As Verne said, you can get a lot of great support here on DS from people who understand!
Welcome to the group.
I agree with Hurtin about getting a good attorney now to go over your situation and advise you. There is more to divorce that you realize and it's time to get informed about what your rights are and what you are entitled to. Sometimes the other spouse can start taking out their retirement funds and they should not be touching them because they are usually joint marital property depending on the years you are married and the laws of your state.
Here is form that has divorce questions. Fill it out and take it with you when you see the divorce attorney. It will help him/her to advise you. Many, many hugs.
