I think a confrontation only drives a wedge deeper, especially with those who already find it easy to ignore you
My boyfriend thinks I'm wimping out by not standing up for myself. He thinks everyone just walks all over me, and maybe it's true. My ex walked all over me, and I just took it, it was probably why I gained 70 pounds, which I now lost.
My oldest sister (she's 18 yrs older) lost her husband to cancer in her early 40's. I took care of her sons while she went to different cancer centers across the country, and apparently now that is forgotten.
When I started mentioning how my ex was treating me, she told me to be thankful that I had someone. Who says that to someone in an abusive relationship?
I found someone who cares for me, my children and my dogs. He's also seen how my ex treated/treats me, how my family treats me, and it upsets him.
I don't think it is letting them walk all over you. It could be said the same as your Boyfriend going hunting instead of spending the Holiday with you. But, I actually see it as quite the opposite if you were to just deal with the non-invite, chalk it up to "thats just how it is", and still be able to make this Thanksgiving your own still and being at peace with it.
Not everyone views Thanksgiving the same. Some will see it as a chance to take time off for themselves, go on vacation or go hunting. Some will see it as a burden to be with family or some of the drama it will bring and try to avoid those situations at all cost. Some will see it as a time where they should only spend it with those they care about right now. While others will see it as a time to give thanks to those that are or wee somehow connected to their life in one way or another; regardless of how they were connected. They will realize the true meaning behind the Holiday and use it as a reason to put aside differences.
So while it is easy to be upset with people that just don't hold certain things as we do, one really can't get upset with those who just view things differently.
So embrace and surround yourself with those who care about you. Reach out to those who you care about and wish them well; whether you think they care or not. Cus if you care, that is all that matters.
I talked to my one sister last night. I needed to redo my will, and I need to name someone to be power of attorney in case something happens. She agreed. My best friend also said she was willing to do it.
I'm going up to my sister's house Sat. for her grandaughter 1.st birthday. My son may be coming, not sure, but I will be there.
While we were talking, I mentioned that I was probably spending Thanksgiving with my friend. I also mentioned that it hurts that I'm not included in other family functions. She doesn't agree with my other sister and brother, and said that they just need to get over it.
It also made me feel good that I could lalk about my boyfriend. I don't talk about him much with my family because he's still technically married. They havve custody issues with their son, but he's working on it.
He's sat down with my son. My son likes him, but he's worried about my ex.
I kived last night that my boyfriend tried calling multiple times, not gettting cell service from where he's hunting to check on my family situation.
I've been on vacations with my friend, and I never heard a peep friom my ex.
I just wish the rest of my family sees how much he cares for me. When my sister and I talked about my will, I said that even if we get married, he doesn't want anything from me. I am well off. My ex married me for my father, and it keeps getting pointed out to me. How could I be marred to someone 22 yrs and not figure this out?
