Brain Injury Support Group

Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.

So I'm sure we all deal with any multitude of anxiety problems on a daily basis, brain injury or not. However, do any of you guys suffer anxiety about going places? Like I can wake up any morning on a normal day that I'm spending at home and feel fine and relaxed all day. However, if I know I'm working the next day or the day of, I can make myself so anxious that I'll throw up. But no matter how many times I take "deep breaths" or "rest my eyes" I still feel so anxious! And i become irritated by everything
Sometimes ill just start crying! It's not just if I have to work either. It's if I have an appointment or any other obligation. Someone please tell me this happens to them! I feel like I'm going insane :(

Not really, unless I have to be where ever on time, I'm fighting traffic or worried about parking. I'm sure others here in the big city have those problems too. Nobody can really say if your problems are related to your brain injury or not but I'm not writing it off.

Hi Samantha, My emotions can change very quickly, depending on stress, fatigue/not sleeping well and overstimulation. I'm on disability now, but I use to multi-task big time....after by BI showed up no more multi-tasking or stress......just doing one task like going to the grocery store used to cause anxiety..I can remember sitting in the car and crying, after getting the groceries in my car.....before I could drive home!! It felt really bad to fall apart like that, but the more I did that task, the more confidence that I *could* do it helped me, and I didn't cry anymore....that
took awhile. The new brain connections, IMO, need lots of practice and repeating, and of course time...at least over the years that's what I found about myself and healing. Blessings!

I'm new here, trying to catch up on all the older threads.

I definitely have suffered anxiety post brain injury. Social situations have me going through the roof. I have practically shut myself up in my house to avoid people.

Something that helped me is having non-stressful, successful Occupational Therapy appointments (one-on-one) and Cognitive Rehabilitation appointments. It gave me the courage to try other situations.

I'm also on some new meds that have completely changed my anxiety levels. I'm sooo much better now, that I can actually work on my cognitive tasks.

Do you have someone treating you? Maybe they could help you out with a script.
