Brain Injury Support Group
Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
Whenever we have this Thanksgiving , I see the same people, but have no idea who they are ( my faceblindness). I'm thankful that they know about this and re-introduce themselves when I admit I don't remember them. I"m thankful that I am at home enough with both my deficits and with people that I am not ashamed to tell them when I don't recognize them, or understand what they're talking about. This is real progress in accepting my tbi.
This past year has had some hard times, but the good far outweigh the bad. This next year will have hardships, I"m sure, but my attitude will determine how I react. Next Thanksgiving ( 2014) I will have a grandchild at the table- a real reason to give thanks!
Now it is time to shop, and I"m thankful that mine is done! I may go off island and into the city just to watch the people. My English student from Mexico wants to "experience American culture". so I may have to take her in! I hope we can all keep our balance and sanity as we prepare for Christmas, and keep in mind that this is a season of peace.
Thanks again, Moni. Your writing helped me keep things in perspective, and was inspiring. Blessings to all - H
That is spectacular! I am so glad you were able to go to such a large Thanksgiving feast.
I so very often forget or don't recognize people i meet at college now. It makes me so anxious, because I always feel so rude but i've decided to embrace it (or at least do my best to try). Turns out that people really aren't as mean or easily upset as i expect them to be. So many people I've met lately are truly wonderful!
I can't believe you're going to have a grandchild!!! =) that is great! (Is it weird that I'm only 23 and I wish I were a grandmother already? ...I don't have kids yet lol. I'm jumping the gun. I just really love my grandmother and we have the best times together) I hope you have the same kind of relationship I have with her with your newest member of the family. It's a true blessing!
I'm so proud of you =) Enjoy the holiday season!
