Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
Hi I'm new here.
I had a heavy concussion that resulted in amnesia. The amnesia lasted until I recovered 5 years later. Despite reaching this apparent 'recovery' I've since developed a lot of other issues which I didn't have before recovering. This includes serious thyroid problems and a number of other VERY unsettling symptoms.
I am detirmined to find out what is causing the problems because I can't live with it, I feel different - rotten awful every day - but my doctors simply aren't interested in helping me any futher now I am considered 'recovered'.
I have a burning question that someone might be able to help with.
Is it possible that a traumatic recovery experience from amnesia or TBI can hurt/injure/cause inflamation in your brain? I was practically in a vegetable state after recovering from the amnesia (5 years after the actual injury). I was also immediately dislexic, which I have never had in my life (but am no longer suffering from).
Any information would be greatly appreciated as I have no doctors to discuss this with.

When I first found this site, after teaching myself how to use a computer again, I read all the past posts/threads and learned from others experiences more than I ever learned from doctors. I'm sorry for what you are going thru, but you have found a great place...we all are on the same road...it can be very hard and frustrating, but we care and all help each other find answers/coping skills, you are among friends who want to help.
