Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
i really noticed that after years of this now it seems all these doctors tell you you have things like bipolar or depression or anxiety when it's just one thing....brain injury! and when you get upset and you forget things worse and they notice all of a sudden you have aphasia, but they will still be confused you can't figure out directions, than you have a learning dissability, or you can't spell right, And I can't always get the word right so have to substitute a word for another and sometimes they will sit and tell me, well, you said this, or you said that, try and make it sound like i am lying or something. sit and argue stuff with me at the doctors office. these people are suppose to be proffesional. ha. kSo, now you see I have a problem with anger and sarcasm too. But, not usually. Just needed to rant... thanks
Are these primary Doctors you're dealing with, or Mental Health Professionals or other specialists? Sometimes, it seems, if one is dealing with a professional in a particular specialty they will ONLY focus and see something that is within their specialty.
But the thing about a brain injury is that our symptoms may appear similar to other things, but they are not the same.
You have to get to TBI specialists, and ONLY TBI SPECIALISTS- They are the only ones who "get" TBI and are very compassionate about our TBI loved ones. Even my Hubby's "regular" non-trauma hospital brain surgeon who operated and performed craniotomy on my hubby's subdural hematoma- brain bleed- 37 gram blood clot-7mm shift-requiring 5 titanium plates and 18 titanium screws to close his brain head had no effing clue what would become this "new " AND SUDDENLY NOW DIFFERENT FOR LIFE patient and ordered no follow-up care after his accident (out of state)!!! Rant all you want Judy, cuz we are there right with you!!!! ((((((HUGS))))))))
