Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
As many of you well know medical expenses can cause serious hardships. I would like to start a discussion on ways to prevent or in some cases salvage a persons credit rating.
In most states there are provisions made for long term payments on medical bills. In Arkansas medical bills do not have interest and a minimal payment of 5$ is allowed for each medical bill.
The first thing to do after receiving medical services and if you know you are going to have trouble paying the total bill is to Contact the provider of services and make payment arrangements. Most medical billing offices will take what you can pay monthly.
I will share what we did: My medical bills where beyond the thousands!! We called each medical provider and said that we were aware of the billing and wanted to wait till insurance would pay its part. After insurance paid its part we set up to pay only 5$ per month per bill. We had around 10 different medical bills ; we now have it down to about half. Then as we knew what we were dealing with in our budget we worked at paying larger sums towards the medical bills.
The medical bills and ongoing need for medical care is a great burden on our budget. I have to pick and chose at times what is the most important of my meds and dr. appointments because we can not afford everything I need.
Also there are school loans that have to be dealt with too. I understand and accept my responsibility for the school loans. I just never thought it would be a big deal to pay them back. I was assured a good college education would more than pay for itself.
