Brain Injury Support Group
Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
When I have an EEG ( every 4 years or so ) , it's always a sleep - deprived EEG. I have to stay up the entire night before the test. Because of this, I always show more seizure activity . Needless to say I try to get a full night's sleep to keep things at bay.
As far as meds are concerned, as I mentioned , I am coming off Klonopin ( clonazepam ) . Like NoBotox I have taken this for a number of years. However my psychiatrist told me of studies of this med - how it has been proven to hurt memory. That, plus the fact that doctors ( here in Maine, at least ) are not prescribing it anymore , have led me to wean off it, ( I have gone from 5 mg to 2 mg) . I take a mood stabilizer which also is used for seizures, so I can go off the Klonopin safely.
Can you get more rest so you don't have as many seizures? As far as medicines are concerned, leave that to your neurologist. As No Botox said , Klonopin does help ( and it's an anti- anxiety med ) , but it's controlled ( drug abusers love it ) , and as I mentioned, hurts memory . My PC said doctors are trying to get as many people off it as possible,, and are no longer prescribing it for many reasons. I hope you can find the right balance of lifestyle and medicine so that you can have fewer seizures.
