Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
I was reading through journals last week and came across two days when I woke my daughters up at 4a.m. to get ready for school. My oldest looked at her clock, and told me it wasn't time. Okay for that...
I recently spent some time with this daughter, and dared to ask the question " Do you remember times I did strange things , like when I woke you up? I'd like to see if I remember them". She thought for a few seconds, said "I remember the time you toilet papered Pastor Bruce's office so he couldn't get in, but that was being the true you. If you did things because of your brain injury, I think we just took it all in stride".
I hope that 's the attitude all our families and friends can have; that they'll get to know the "new us" and will take things in stride if we do things we never used to do .
More importantly, I hope We can take ourselves in stride , and not blame ourselves for acting differently than we used to. In my case, it was clear to see that I was more concerned about "what I had done" than my daughter took notice of. I don't know if this relates to anyone here or not. -Holly

Yes, there have been many things I've done that my husband has handled really well. The anger outbursts - fortunately we were married almost 13 years when I was injured. I am grateful that he knows me so well, so when those would happen (year 2) he knew it was the injury since it was abnormal behavior for me.
