Brain Injury Support Group

Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.

For TBI AWARENESS I shaved all of my hair off so that our 'invisible' injury wouldn't be so invisible any more. They told me it was going to be in the health section. They put it on the front page on the 21st of March!!

Wow, now that is awareness. I hope it causes people to become informed, we need that so badly. I took a cab to a doctor appt last week and the driver was talking about the NFL being on a radio broadcast tearing down the info on concussions/NFL....I got on my soapbox and spoke of Brain Injury/ all kinds/and the effects it can have...the cab driver agreed with me that it is all about money, but it is just a matter of time before the NFL has to face facts or IMO they will face increasing lawsuits and loss of their $$$. Someone could make big bucks right now designiing a better football/hockey helmet for players that better protects the brain, but even then it will take years to know if it reduces brain injuries....sigh!!

You can go to my pictures an see the ones we took privately. And I did have a lot of people come up and talk to me about it after the article was in the paper. I love talking about it. A lot of people ask about my service dog, Jesse too. So that gives me a chance to talk about my brain injury. I am doing what ever I can to raise awareness and help others so that they don't feel so alone. I felt alone for forty freaking years.
I had lunch with the reporter after the article came out. Our interview was over the phone. She loved how Jesse just went under the table. I did buy a hamburger for her for when we got out to the car. You aren't allowed to feed or water your animal in a public eatery.
I saw on TV that they were offering the NFL players five million a piece a few months ago. But that is nothing compared to what a toll it takes on your body and life and the life of those around you.

Nice scar from what I can feel my scar is on the right side of my head. I've never really looked at it. I can easily feel it though. Looking at it would get me too depressed, although I can see some of it on my forehead.

I have a lot of scars from my accident but thankfully nine of them are on my head or face. They are on my stomach,legs,and both ankles.

I haven't posted in a while.. TBI is in my mind daily by my daily routines.. But since I got my kittens I'm not so lonely any more. I got a kitty condo plus lots of toys. They are so loving and playful they are fun to be around. Plus, I'm never lonely. That's my TBI awareness day. Being with my cats who help me forget its a major part of my life..
