Hugx and Welcome Lori, so sorry about your son. This site has been slow lately, but there is a wealth of info in many pages of past tbreads/posts to read...I did that when I first joined and I did not feel so alone, so many people dealing with similar issues related to BI. brainline.org is another good site for information. Also check if there is a Brain Injury Assoc. in your area, my state has names of support groups, caregivers too, and Brain Specialists. My Eyes were also affected big time, so I wear sunglasses alot inside, keep lights/sound low to avoid overstimulation. I had to teach myself computer skills all over again...it was a very slow, frustrating process, but just playing child brain games (I am over 55)...was how I re-made brain connections, sometimes only 10 minutes a day the Eye/Brain fatigue was bad, but for over a year, daily I did this, and I saw improvement, added simple, but harder games, and eventually here I am on a tablet. Having the keyboard right on the screen reduces fatigue for me. Maybe see if your son has interest in using a tablet,the game Tetris is how I started, like I said it was slow going. Crossword Puzzles, any kind of puzzles, but I would start with super easy ones. I had trouble, and still do with certain puzzle games with angled pieces...still don't know why, but I avoid those. There is a free Arcade of games at the shopping site Hsn.com...all kinds of different games to try, that may help your son activate/create new neural pathways in his brain. Lots of good sleep, I increased my intake of amino acids, because the healing brain needs good nutrition, and for me it was lean chicken, good protein helped me. The slow repetition of re-learning basic tasks can be very frustrating, but there is Hope when you can see improvement. Hi Lori, I had 2 tbi. Gave me temp lobe epilepsy. Which is amnesia type
seizures. Means I seldom watch a tv repeat, as don't recall the first. Its very hard for both of you now. Like cheesecake says, I too started with easy games and aims. Still play them, it exercises the brain. I have seen on here were even brain drs read this group posts to see what helps us. So do so when your not exhausted in what interests you. We are real people here. And pray for a good outcome
