Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
I just need a little input from all of you. This week I will be seeing a new neurologist. Since I was approved for Medicaid in January, my neurologist will no longer see me, because she does not accept Medicaid. It took forever, but I finally found one who will, and I will be seeing him on the 18th. (I haven't seen a neuro. since Jan). I'm very nervous, because I've been seeing my current neuro. since my injury and she knows all the little things that have been going on. I will be picking up my records, and am going to make a list of questions, but with my memory problems, I know I'll probably forget something important. What do you all do when something like this comes up, especially when seeing a new doctor. What kind of questions should I ask, and what questions do you think he will ask me? I am so nervous, and I know that will confuse me even more. And I hate going to a new doctor-it makes me really nervous and even nauseous. Thanks. God Bless. Kathy
Your current records will have all the things that have happened so far, so don't worry about telling everything, but make a list of anything you want to particularly point out (e.g. anything got worse or anything that has really helped).
He asked me about my symptoms and a bit about the history of what happened. He then explained about the available drugs (and we discussed side effects).
Write down your questions: i asked about what non-drug treatment was available, how much exercise was safe, when it was likely I could return to work, and about a couple of my symptoms.
I double checked my question list more than once to make sure i asked everything I wanted to know
My outcome was lucky as the guy is going to refer me to one of the top doctors in the country (UK) for non-drug treatment of PCS.
He was very understanding about my thought processes, as have most professionals i have dealt with.
Don't worry, the doctors deal with head injuries all day so they know that things don't work as well as we want, especially under such circumstances.

So, I too have concerns about having to switch, because I have wonderful Dr's. I hope things go well for you. I know the worst part for me with any new Doc since my accident is usually the first visit. Hopefully you'll feel better after you meet the person.
Is there someone close to you that can go with you, that has experienced this time with you? That has helped me, whether a roommate, parents, a significant other. Sometimes they remember things or add things when you forget or dont think are pertinent. i never go to the first round alone.
