Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
We have all felt like someone was laughing AT us at one time or another in our recovery. I personally think humor IS the best medicine. We all have to learn to laugh at ourselves sometimes.
Recovery is hard, especially in the beginning. So I would ask that everyone here reply to this post with a funny story about themselves. It doesn't have to have anything to do with your tbi. But I will start:
Like I said, I have been in recovery for 35 years. You'd think I'd learn my limitations by now. But nope. Not me. Not ever.
One day last year I decided to have a bowl of cereal. Well, with my stroke, sometimes my left hand jerks around, or curls up. I was walking into another room and put that stupid bowl in my left hand. Sure enough, my hand jerked toward my face. I hit myself so hard in the mouth that I gave myself a bloody lip. Wasn't bad, just pissed me off. Cereal was everywhere. For a moment I thought about crying. But hell, if I did that I would be crying every day. It took me a long time to clean up that mess. When my husband came home and I told him about it he asked me what I was doing.
"I was kicking my own ass! Do you mind?"!
It's funny to me now.
But you should have seen my poor face when I had to wear a cast on that arm for a year. lol

We went fishing...the whole family loves it...it's what we do whenever we can.
We tried a few spots and weren't having much luck so my sportsman loaded us up to look for another place by the river. He carefully watches the terraine for a place that won't give me too much trouble...(lack of muscle tone still plauge me). He finally gets out and walks up the road and back a couple times. He decides that he's found the place to get down.
We grab our gear and walk to where he leads....I stop at the top of the bank eyeing this embankment carefully...thinking he's nuts! He's lost it, but he tells me to wait and he'll go down first and see how it is first. He goes down first...makes it look easy so I follow.
About half way down, I slid on my good leg...meanwhile my bad leg gets behind me...by the time I stopped sliding...my foot is up past my butt stuck in the grass. I can't move...I have no strength to pull my leg around...I'm STUCK!! Literally can't move the harder I try the more tangled my foot becomes in the grass.
I'm standing on one leg fishing pole in one hand...now firmly planted in the ground to help stablize me...tackle box in the other...thinking now what????
My husband is trying to run up the hill to help, my son's working his way down as quick as he can...but we are all laughing so hard no one can move.
Well...as you know when you laugh you tend to lose strength...I did, droppped my pole and...with it my stablizer...I fell face first...therefore freeing my bound foot! It took several minutes to compose myself enough to stand back up...
Laughter...it did me good!!!
I was still the only one to catch any fish that night!
