I understand how you feel, but the only thing beyond 'asking' for his undivided attention is 'demanding' it (something that makes men defensive). If you want to understand the feelings behind his decision, then, after accepting his decision, inquire as to why he made it. If he can consider it within a 'realm' of acceptance, he will be more open to your feelings (although maybe not until the next time).

You do need him with you, and for him to gain some understanding.
Have you thought about laser acupuncture? When I had bells palsy, half my face dropped, no way was I having the needles. The laser worked just as well and fixed things. He always did one on top of my head and alternated a spot under a foot each visit. Said all connected. Did smile and say his 6 year old daughter had had needle acupuncture.
Told him she is braver than me then. Drambuie has some good advice for you.
