Brain Injury Support Group
Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
With all due respect to your doc, his statement sounds like *black and white* thinking to me.....he can't possibly know all of us, no one can, and we are all so different....I was never in a coma, sent home from the er with a *rest you'll be fine* statement....yeah right!!!
I realize I'm different...it's taken years to come to terms with....but even early in life I felt different...had depression..marriage did not work...working in a hospital was rewarding, but very stressfull, I know there are those here who can't remember past events/I remember too many...and I wish I could forget.....sounds strange, but my emotions go all over the place now...over-sensitive/over-emotional when past memories
come up.
I also wish there was more understanding of Tbi/Abi....I feel like docs/friends/family/often trivialize our injuries/changes/and I find that so frustrating that I stay to myself/enter the world on my terms/I'm a senior citizen now (cough/hack) and I don't take any crap from anyone anymore....again it's taken time and I express myself better now...I'm nice/sort of/but my favorite saying is * Different isn't Dumb*...maybe I finally reached acceptance, but it has been a hard road/to answer your question/I may have had those thoughts in the past....but I guess I moved past them....I hope and pray!! This site has helped me do that too!!! Blessings
