Hello. I’m sorry to hear you are having a difficult time. My whole world changed, and not for the better, after my accident and TBI. I had to retire early from a job I really loved. I became withdrawn. I started acting like an animal with its foot stuck in a trap, needlessly snapping at anyone around me because I was hurting all the time. I lost some good friends. Eventually, I realized I was not only injured physically, but I had mental injuries that needed to be addressed. I found a great neurologist, after many not so great neurologists. I was willing to try anything he felt might help. It took years of trial and error to reach a pretty good place. There are solutions to your problems! I can’t say what will work for you, just because it seems that most treatment that work for a TBI patient, only work for about 30-40% of other TBI patients. For example, triptans like Imitrex work for many TBI migraines but have no effect on mine. I’m on a very low extended release narcotic everyday, which helps greatly with my pain levels. With the current anti-opioid climate, that may be taken away soon. I have been taking a powder mixture of 500mg vitamin C 400mg calcium and 200 mg Magnesium. The acidity of the vitamin C helps the Magnesium absorb. Within 2 or 3 days of starting it, my mood and energy improved and I actually slept a little. My neurologist wasn’t sure why, but he thought it might help in the formation of neurotransmitters my injury had left me in need of. It is cheap to try, and good for your bones if nothing else. Also, try to find something simple in life that gives you pleasure. It could be a hobby, or just a friend who is good to talk to. Use them to anchor you in daily life, so you don’t get sucked into the doldrums. You will get through this. Best of luck!

Thank you Tjt2300 for your kind words. I will talk to my doctor this week about the powder mixture. I have noticed since my TBI, none of my medications really work that I was taking prior for PTSD, Panic Attacks, night terrors. I did just get approved to see a doctor for Neurofeedback and I am regaining hope. Neurofeedback and biofeedback had changed my life for years for the positive. I know it is used also for TBI patients. My real struggle seems to be when I'm at home because every hobbie I had my doctors tell me not to do. I am putting as much effort as I can to find a new hobbie. I downloaded an app to help me with becoming fluent again in Spanish. My significant other is from Puerto Rico. I've been struggling with my brain injury since 2014. I went through many years of depression and anxiety and not wanting to leave my house in fear that I would die. I know about everything you're talking about. What helped me was finding something that motivated me. I come from a long line of failures and I wanted to be the one to succeed. The one to have a brain injury and still come out better than any non-brain injury person in my family. I focused on my education and even though I have to work way harder than any of my college class mates, I'm doing it. And I'm so proud of myself. I finally found something worth living for. I also got a pet. He also helped turn my life around. Having something around that depends on you and comforts you is really great. Another thing I eventually realized is that you can't feel bad for yourself. You have to realize that what happened to you can't be changed and you can either conquer it, or let it kill you. My brain injury follows me everywhere I go, and I can always feel it's presence. But I'm adapting. I'm learning how to live this way instead of being mad at the world all the time like I used to be. I'm new to this website and I'm really glad that I'm not alone in this, because sometimes it sure feels like it. I wish you the best of luck!

I actually have a rescue who my psychiatrist is in the works of making an emotional support dog. He has been amazing through everything. He is honestly what keeps me going.
