Brain Injury Support Group
Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
i have this kind of stuff happen all the time, but I often don't get pissed at the person because I know I can't handle the stress because i'm still healing.

This is an area I have actually gotten very good at, if I may say so. I got tired of missing things and being worked up into irritation or frustration or, like you, even tears.
I have learned to gently stop them. And completely break their train of thought. By speaking their name slowly, and reaching out and grabbing their hands. Its a pretty impressive gesture, the touching of someone else's hands. Its an attention getting technique. And be silent and stare at them and get full contact. Sometimes I have to say: "Mom. Mom. Mom" three times before she stops. Then I tell her how much I appreciate the help, how important hearing it is, but I need to process it a bit slower. And ask if she can go over it again, slower, or usually and more efficiently, I ask smaller more succinct questions.
By try touching, try the calm name saying. You might find it helps them to reach your level, find your pace, instead of you continuing to get lost in theirs.
My other brain Docs all know to do this.
One day she was rambling on and I just sat there quiet. Finally when she finished she asked me some question and I just said, "I can't keep up with you."
