Brain Injury Support Group
Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
I'm sorry you are going thru this because (my motto) "It just sucks!!!"
I also have a horrible time making decisions about 'big" things. I will tell Mark that I agree with him about this, then will change my mind and tell him I Never said I'd do something. He's gotten to a point where he actually writes down the issue ( like tearing out an exposed chimney out of the kitchen- I loved it, but could see that it should be torn down). We talk the issue over , and then I will write "I agree ( or disagree) that..." and we both sign the paper. He will always write the pros and cons of the decision, so I can be reminded of things because I invariably will mull the decision over and change my mind a hundred times. But when the time comes to do something, he will bring the paper back out and show me what we decided. We've only done this 2 or 3 times over big things, but I can see the worth in it. He's tired of my indecision, or the fact that I swear I Never agreed to something. ( I still cried when they took the chimney down, but now am glad they did ).
So I know what you're talking about. This writing "contracts" seems a bit extreme at times, but it's the only way to preserve sanity. I hope your "false memories" only pertain to small things, like me forgetting the oven cleaner yesterday. The bigger decisions that you don't remember deciding can be a much larger thing to deal with.
I sometimes invent memories, not on purpose..... It is very difficult not being able to completely trust myself. Just another side effect that I am learning to cope with.
It's nice to know there are other people out there that do this.
