Brain Injury Support Group
Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
Hi everyone I had a TBI back in 2013. Fell off my longboard going about 20 miles an hour, fell back, and slammed my head into the pavement. Did a full flip from the impact. Was flight for lifed and found I fractured a large portion of my skull, and had a subdermal hematoma. Was unconscious for 3 days before waking up in a hospital bed. Didn't know who I was, what was going on, and complete lost all memory from before the accident. Was recovering for almost 2 years in and out of therapy and different medications.
Fast forward to now and I'm functional in a professional sense. I can work drive and do tasks without issue but I'm emotionally deadened. I don't ever feel anything outside of angry. Tried coping and talking to others but I don't seem to get anywhere. This stupid injury just cost me a long time relationship and honestly I don't know how to feel about the situation. Is there anything that can be done through doctors or that I can do myself to get more in touch with emotions? Does anyone have any ideas or advice?
