Hi, the only time I feel something like that is when I'm having a seizure. I stay completely conscious during the seizure, but feel "weird". It's as though ( and this sounds crazy) you have taken a syringe filled with hot air and inserted it in the bottom of my spine. The hot air "floats" up my spine and eventually ( 10 seconds later) is in my head floating around. I can still talk and contribute to the conversation, but tend to give rote answers or not talk at all . This is especially true if I know I have an opinion to give: I won't be able to express it as well as I'd like while in the seizure . BTW, seizures only last about 25 seconds.

There are rare days when I"ll have 15 seizures in a day. Usually I have two seizures in a day, every 3 months or so. On these multiple seizure days, I am definitely feeling different. It's kind of like you in that I give answers, but don't feel connected to them or to anything else. I'm usually home on these days; I don't go to church , for example, because I know I can't pay attention the way I should. I'll tell my husband that i"m "seizure-y" and he'll know it's not a day to have a serious talk.

So I don't know if this is the floating you experience. But I do know that it's similar to The Mamas and Papas song "Beautiful Balloon" - "would you like to ride in my beautiful balloon? Way up in the air in my beautiful balloon? ...Oh we can Fly! We can Fly!" ( If you're too young to know this song, look it up on Utube. It's a lovely song, and maybe you can relate to it! ) Good luck; I hope you get back to earth soon. :)

Hi, when my sleep is bad I feel floaty, off balance, strange and do not drive. For me good sleep is as important as my med. A few years ago when I got in my car, sat down, I felt like both me and the car felt floaty, I thought I had vertigo and didn't drive for several months. If you get a chance read my thread about dilated pupils...I just brought it back up! Hugs to you!

Thank you for your input. I am going to bring it up to my doctor when I see her in April. I've been meaning to, but you know when you live with something for so long it is normal. So when a doctor asks if everything is normal, how are you supposed to answer? I told my husband to remind me.
But thanks again, I will look up that song. And at least I know I'm not alone in this.

The first year I had a kind of floating feeling, I always asked the Drs. if they ever got really drunk. That's the only way I could describe it. I haven't noticed it since then, I guess I found my anchor. lol Hoping you find yours Pogo........

The only thing close to something like that is because my balance is so bad. I describe it as I feel like I am walking on a water bed- I can't get my balance and can just fall over. I did that in the fall and Bob was not there to catch me in time and I broke my shoulder.
I could make a list (as anyone with a brain injury can) of what I can't do now that I could do "before"- yet I can't get SSDI because I don't qualify!!! Go figure!!!

I did the first few years after my TBI. That feeling isn't near as much with the dizziness that largely cleared up. What is persistent is sort of a mushy feeling in my head that comes and goes. Sometimes just for a few minutes, sometimes days. When this happens, my vision becomes odd, everything I see becomes smoother texture, and sort of surreal like a cartoon, even people. It would even be funny like a cartoon but for the mushy feeling that feels like nausea but in the head. I do describe it as still being a little bit "floaty" too, but not as bad as that was.

I refer to mine as "Snow Globe Head" because there are times it just feels like my head is one huge snow globe that has been shaken and the bits are swirling around. Antivert has been very effective for the nausea and dizziness...but it doesn't eliminate it completely. My gait is so bad now that I have went from walking to walking with a cane...and now a walker (after multiple falls). When you take into account that in 2007 I was still rock-climbing...it has been a huge transition. Now I can't safely step up on a curb without assistance.
