Brain Injury Support Group
Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
I'm pretty sure that most of you have heard at least something about Will Smith's new movie coming out in December. It is about the doctor that fought the NFL to prove the damage that concussions do to the brain and the lasting effects.
I have been in a support group on Facebook call the TBI Tribe. There have been lots of discussions about treatments and other therapies there. I am really encouraging you all to come and join us.
On Friday November 6th I was on my way to class when I was rear ended by a kid in a pick up. I felt the impact in my back and neck. I went to the ER and they didn't even do x-rays. Just gave me pain meds and sent me home. I ran into other problems with my GP so I went to another ER. They did x-rays and said that I had muscle strain in my neck, whip lash, but not in my back. The next day I had an eye appointment. I failed the field test. The doctor was really concerned. Concerned enough to ask me to come back in ten days. When I went back I passed the field test with flying colors. He even had to completely re do my eye test to change my prescription. He is no neurologist, but his theory is that I hit the back of my head on the head rest and had swelling in the part of my brain that handles your vision and the swelling had gone down since my last test. I wasn't quite having double vision but I was having serious eye strain in my right eye, because some how my right eye was knocked just a little higher than my left one. So make sure you see a really good eye doctor.

I finally found NORA optometry....they go in to the BI rehab places to help, BUT..get this..,to see one of these doctors as an outpatient can cost a thousand dollars/one visit!!! I spoke with a few...they told me they will only take cash because Insurance companies refuse to cover any cost, so the people in rehab are covered as it should be, but unless you're rich, as an out patient..no....really made me mad!! I can not wear bifocals, they cause vertigo symptoms, also I take the nose piece off my glasses so they are as close as possible to my eyes...and different eye strengths are a No for glasses...I tried but nausea/again a vertigo feeling....So I wear the same strength, each eye at the lowest strength for distance to still see ok, and enlarge font for reading to keep reading glasses at the lowest strength possible. This helps reduce my eye/brain fatigue althouth I still have limits, also reduced light.I will check out the group you mentioned...Thanks!!
