Brain Injury Support Group
Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
What does your Dr say to this med your taking? Have you had a recent mri to show what its doing? That way you would know.
A couple of years ago, I experienced some small benefits by eating/drinking smoothies made out of green leafy stuff like kale, coriander leaves, mint, etc, which all contain Vitamin E. So I started consuming one smoothie per day, and was experiencing some tiny benefits. After doing this for a month, I came down with a kidney stone - a really painful medical problem - and it turned out this was caused by the smoothies I was consuming. My eagerness to overcome one problem had suddenly led to a new problem and caused me damage. I got a big scolding from my doctor for that, and I had to abandon that approach.
But back in July of this year, I found some product called Neprinol. Have you heard of it? Look, I'm not a salesman or a huckster or a spammer or anything, so I'm not looking to advertise/promote somebody's product. But this Neprinol stuff is described as a "fibrinolytic" - it's in capsule form (cellulose capsule containing powdery stuff inside) - and it's supposed to dissolve fibrin.
Yeah, I admit I haven't told my doctor(s) I've been taking the Neprinol, because anytime I've tried any previous home remedies, etc out of desperation, and told them about it, then they always get worried and give me strong caution warnings about doing it. But look, I've got to try.
Let me tell you what happened when I started taking the stuff. I'll put it in the next post, because I want to tell you in detail what happened. This is going to be the first time I'm sharing this part of the story with anybody.
I was pacing the floor everyday until that parcel arrived.
So as soon as the package arrived, I ripped it open and consumed just a single capsule of the stuff, with a glass of water. Within minutes my "bad spot" (where the scar is located) began tingling - some kind of activity was happening around it. At this point, I immediately began to feel some tiny benefits - I began to feel a slight clearing of my head, began to feel some decongestion in my head, which was a great feeling. There was a throbbing happening around my scar. I could feel some kind of increase in circulation happening in places where blood had not been properly flowing in 18 years. I was elated - Eureka!
After several minutes, I decided to consume another capsule with water. More of the same effect happened. After about 20 minutes, I was suddenly overcome by an overwhelmingly powerful feeling of drowsiness and a very strong desire to sleep. (It was mid-afternoon.) That's when the problem happened.
I rushed to bed, because I really wanted to sleep very badly. As I started going horizontal and putting my head on the pillow, I suddenly felt an extreme buildup of pressure on my "bad spot" (where the scab is located) - as if it had suddenly become very weak and suddenly wanted to burst. I immediately lifted myself back up and I was terrified. Even though this powerful drowsiness was happening, I felt like if I went back down onto that bed again, it might be the last thing I do.
Fortunately, by strange coincidence, I had purchased this other product - a large wedge shaped pillow - for a different problem. For the past several months I'd also been suffering from acid reflux (stomach acid coming back up and burning the throat). My doctor had advised me to improve my diet to alleviate the problem (avoid spicy foods, tomatoes, etc), but I'd likewise searched around online for additional solutions, and I'd purchased this large wedge-shaped pillow which can support your upper body while sleeping. It's supposed to be good for if you're reading bed, or if you have acid reflux and need to keep your upper body elevated to avoid having stomach acid come back up into your throat.
So anyway, I grabbed the wedge-pillow which was nearby, and I used it to keep my upper body in an inclined position while l lay in bed. As I cautiously laid myself on the pillow, I could feel some of that pressure feeling on my scar spot, but it wasn't as bad (ie. didn't feel like it was at a bursting-point level of severity) and so like that I cautiously went to sleep, with my entire body in an elevated position thanks to the big wedge-pillow.
After several hours of sleep, I got up the next morning and felt better. There was a noticeable improvement in the clarity of my mind/brain. Parts of my brain now felt a little better, as if some small healing had occurred during sleep. (Like that old saying, "whatever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger"?)
I didn't take any Neprinol that next day, because I was worried about what had happened. Then later when I went to sleep that night, as I went horizontal on my bed, I again began to feel intense pain on my scar spot, as if it was going to burst. I immediately went vertical and was worried - had I permanently damaged myself? Was I never going to be able to sleep in a normal horizontal position again? I again used my large wedge-pillow to sleep with my upper body in an inclined elevated position, to avoid putting full pressure on the weak spot in my head.
So the same thing happened the next day. Didn't consume any more Neprinol, and had to sleep using the damn wedge-pillow to avoid painful pressure buildup from horizontal position.
But after the first few days of doing that, my scar spot seemed to heal, so that I could go back to sleeping in a normal fully-horizontal position. After a few days of back-to-normal, I then got brave again. I decided to consume more Neprinol.
I took a single capsule again with water. Again, same tingly feeling around the scarring, same pleasant feeling of increased blood circulation in areas that needed more, and same feeling of decongestion in some areas. So far, so good. But after about a half-hour, I got that urge to sleep again. As I went horizontal and put my head on the pillow, I got that same alarming feeling of extreme pressure buildup, which immediately forced me to lift myself back to vertical again. So my scar spot was again back to a dangerously fragile state. I then used the wedge-pillow again, to sleep in a tolerable way.
So same cycle again. No Neprinol for the next few days, and no sleeping in horizontal because of painful pressure if I do. But after those few days, my scar spot seemed to have healed up, and I was able to sleep in normal horizontal again. So then I got brave again, and I took more Neprinol.
So I went through that same cycle again and again - taking the Neprinol and then suffering from a 2-3 days of fearful fragility in my scar spot. Then taking the Neprinol. Etc, etc. You see the pattern.
But after each cycle, the recovery time shortened. Each use of the Neprinol provided incremental and persistent improvement in clarity of my mind, improvement of blood flow, and decongestion.
After a couple of weeks of this, I didn't need to use that wedge pillow. I could take Neprinol every day, I could take it multiple times per day. As my usage increased, the benefits/improvements plateaued. In July, I consumed 90 capsules, In August, I consumed 300 capsules. I needed a new way to get better improvements.
Well, I'm 45 now, and back during the early 1990s when I was a teenager (when I was normal, before this rotten thing happened to me), I was pretty scrawny and my Dad bought me a weight set because he wanted to make a "real man" out of me. I was too skinny to become a Mr Universe, but along with the weight training I began reading all about steroids, growth hormone, health supplements, etc. One such natural growth hormone stimulator was L-Arginine, which could be ingested by sucking on capsules under the tongue (facilitates absorption through the semi-permeable mucus membranes of the mouth)
In order to use the Neprinol more efficiently and effectively, instead of merely consuming large quantities of capsules for little effect, I decided to start sucking on the Neprinol capsules, instead of swallowing them with water. My reasoning was that the stomach is much farther away from the brain than the mouth is, so if I absorb it through the walls of my mouth instead, it would get to the brain more efficiently.
It worked - by sucking on the individual Neprinol capsule, I was again getting more beneficial effects.
I also found a way to get even further improvements by using other things in conjunction with the Neprinol. I had previously used Glucosamine and seen some useful benefits, so I began trying that with the Neprinol. I would alternate between using the Neprinol and then later taking some Glucosamine (which you can buy at any health store). I particularly found that Glucosamine HCl works best for me, but other people may find that Glucosamine Sulfate works better for them. So I got further benefits from that.
Recently, I've tried using Gotu Kola as well. Way back after I first got this problem, and started desperately looking on the internet for additional cures, I'd read that Gotu Kola could provide benefits because it contains terpene compounds, which are supposed to help heal scar tissue. Let me tell you - alternating between Neprinol and Gotu Kola also helps a lot. To me, it seems like the Neprinol is working to gradually break down the scar tissue, while the Gotu Kola then seems to do repair work. So now I'm mainly alternating between those 2 things, while also occasionally taking the Glucosamine HCl.
That's where I'm at right now. Within the space of a few months, I'm now in a much better state than I've ever been in the past 18 years.
I've got to go for an appointment, but I'll continue to post - I just first wanted to warn anyone reading this that they shouldn't just go off half-cocked and try using a fibrinolytic like Neprinol in an irresponsible way. You don't want to go from the frying pan into the fire. As I've said, I had some close calls while using it - but I'd do it all over again of course, because I'm in a much better state today than before.
This Neprinol stuff works - you just have to be very cautious and patient in using it. Don't overdo it and cause yourself more brain hemorrhaging. Go very slow, be very patient - especially in the early days. Be prepared to sleep in an elevated inclined position, to avoid too much blood pressure on weak spots in the head, which could cause something to burst.
DISCLAIMER: These are just my observations as a sufferer, just to knowledge-share with others. I don't want anybody to sue me or anything, if something bad happens to them.
Anyway, I'll be back later to discuss more. Gotta go.
Yeah, fibrin is the main component of scar tissue - so a "fibrinolytic" is a substance that will dissolve fibrin, and is a blood thinner. Vitamin E is a blood thinner and is supposed to soften scar tissue. Aspirin/ASA is supposed to be a blood thinner and is supposed to soften scar tissue. Gingko Biloba is an herbal supplement that's also a blood thinner and is supposed to soften scar tissue.
But having tried all kinds of blood thinner, let me say that nothing comes close to the effectiveness of Neprinol. This stuff is great - but as you say, you have to use it carefully. There's another rival product called Serracor, but some online reviews say that Neprinol is better, and has more fibrinolytic activity.
Most people seem to use Neprinol for fibrin problems all over the rest of the body, like Fibromyalgia. I'm using it for a brain injury, trying it out on my own, and I can clearly say that it's working.
Neprinol is just a mixture of different powdered enzymes:
serrapeptase, nattokinase, bromelain, papain, and lipase.
Some of these enzymes are known blood thinners and have even been used as meat-tenderizers and digestive aids (proteolytic).
Oh yeah, and another thing I've had some success with is Folic Acid. There are so many brands of Folic Acid on the market, but find yourself a high dosage, pure crystalline form - because that's what I've found works the best. Suck on that too.
Other things that I've found which enhance the effects of everything. Red grapes help a lot when you're taking all this stuff - particularly when you're taking the Neprinol and the Gotu Kola. I'll munch on a bunch of grapes and in between I'll suck on a capsule of Neprinol or Gotu Kola, and I find that it allows the Neprinol or Gotu Kola to have even more effect. I find that timing is everything - if you have the grapes just before the Neprinol or Gotu Kola, then it works better than if you didn't have the grapes. I think it's because the grapes have the anti-oxidants which clean or polish the surface of the blood vessels (and the injury site), thus better exposing those surfaces to the Neprinol or the Gotu Kola for them to act on.
When you take the Neprinol, do it on an empty stomach, or when you haven't eaten for some time. Don't take it with food or after you've just eaten. Because then it just reacts with the food and is wasted. Sucking the capsules helps to mitigate that problem, since when the capsule dissolves in your mouth you can slosh the contents of the capsule around in your mouth and absorb it more effectively through your mouth walls. Sometimes after brushing my teeth and gums particularly hard/vigorously, I've sucked on a Neprinol capsule and sloshed its contents around my gums, and noticed an enhanced effect. I think it's just because brushing the gums hard introduces little micro-wounds in the gums, and when you slosh the Neprinol there then the stuff permeates into the bloodstream better.
One more thing - if you do take Neprinol by sucking on it instead of washing it down your throat with water, then be aware that sucking on Neprinol makes your tongue quite sore. That's because the proteolytic enzymes in it attack your tongue. So your tongue will feel very sore, as if you had cold sores on it. That can't be helped - it's just the price you pay for trying to absorb it through your mouth for greater effectiveness.
Folic Acid dissolves fibrin, but it also participates in what's called the Methionine Leach Cycle, which scavenges Methionine from your urine at night. This can improve your sleep by reducing your need to get up to urinate at night. But it also mainly improves healing and repair at night.
Another really good one I've tried is Bilberry, which has lots of anti-oxidants which are good for the eyes. Specifically, I've tried a lot of Bilberry tea, and I find that it really helps in healing and repair. During WW2, they used to give RAF bomber pilots Bilberry jam to eat to improve their night vision. It's good for the eyes, brain and vasculature in general.
And then there's another very good thing I've tried: Long-Infrared Heating Lamp. Tried it and find that it gives noticeably good results. After doing some research, I bought one of these ceramic bulbs you can get at pet stores - they're really meant for tropical lizards which need warm tropical heat - but they provide very good long-wavelength radiation that penetrates inside the skull. I have a reading lamp mounted above my bed for reading in bed at night, and I substituted in the ceramic bulb into it. I switch it on at night and have it shine down directly onto my head. Because the radiation is invisible and can't be seen, I sleep in pitch darkness while the lamp is on.
CAUTION: a ceramic bulb of this type gets very, very hot and must not be touched or it will cause burns. My bulb is high enough and sheathed so that I won't accidentally bump into it. But that long-wave infrared goes right inside your skull and feels good. My bulb is 100W.
med and self injections to take. Blood tests so often to check they know me well at both places. Arranged by Dr of course. You sound as if you have done some research on all this, but please be careful with knives etc as I was told.
When is your next mri due?
What guides me is my own nervous system and its feedback to me. In my case, when I try something that works well, my nervous system immediately tells me that it's good. If I try out something and it works poorly, my nervous system immediately tells me so. Hey, I'm directly wired up to this flesh, so I can tell very clearly when my injury reacts positively or negatively to something.
Yes, I've spent all these past 18 years constantly reading and researching, looking for a way out. Every single day, my injury has reported to me what state it's in. When I think of how much time and attention I've given to this problem for the past 18 years - I have to wonder what other rewarding things I could have done with all that time spent, had I not been afflicted with this injury in the first place.
But this Neprinol thing has given me new hope. I've never experienced more rapid progress than I have in the past few months since I started using it. I'm very hopeful now.
I've suffered badly from the hyperaculosis - the extreme sensitivity to noise - for these past 18 years. I own not one, but two pairs of noise-canceling headphones. I find they work better than ordinary earplugs. Bose makes the best noise-canceling headphones around, and I find their product to be a godsend. After enduring years of torment, I bought my first pair of them back in 2010, and the relief they provided was heavenly. The headphones actively cancel noise, while running on AAA batteries (I just use rechargeables, and keep swapping in fully charged ones every week.)
But now suddenly, my ability to handle/filter noise has remarkably improved in the past few months. That tells me that something good is happening - that something is repairing. I feel like the end is within sight - and that sometime before this time next year I will be fully back to normal, which is what I want.

I suppose any method of sleeping with your upper body elevated would do. Anyway, just my personal opinion - read at own risk.
When I first joined this forum, I did so to post and ask about a particular product called Neprinol that I've recently started using, which I've felt was having a very dramatic effect on me in relation to breaking down scar tissue in the brain.
I've been using this product continuously every day since July 2015, and it's gradually been improving my symptoms, particular in regards to pain, congestion, injury discomfort/stiffness, noise sensitivity, mental acuity/clarity, etc.
I started out with swallowing it with water, and then when the effects of using it plateaued, I then switched to sucking on it in my mouth instead of swallowing it with water. This then seemed to increase the potency of the stuff, so that I was again feeling more benefits from taking it, and continued improvements in my symptoms.
As a result of recent conversations within this thread, I recently decided to just come clean to my doctor and tell him what I've been doing, and I actually went in and did just that. He of course told me to stop using the product, telling me that he didn't know what it was, and that no OverTheCounter could likely be as good as a presciption medication that's been clinically reviewed, etc. He scheduled me for more blood tests, etc. I thanked him and left.
Now suddenly, in the past few days, there has been a ridiculously dramatic improvement. Literally, on the night of November 2, I felt strange relief inside my head, as if something had radically changed. The next day, November 3 felt similar. But then when as I woke up early on the morning of November 4, suddenly things felt worse than ever - worse congestion than I've felt in awhile. I felt despair, like this goddamn problem was never going to end, and that I'd be stuck with it for the rest of my goddamn life.
But after my bout with despair, I just resolutely went back to sucking on the damn capsules again. This then resulted in yet another "Fragile Moment" for me - a moment where I once again felt strong pressure when I lay down, like something was about to burst in my head. I had to sleep using the wedge pillow again, because I was so worried. But the next morning (yesterday), I got up and my head felt better than it's ever been - like some weak spot had undergone some repair and strengthened.
As I'm now writing this, I'm really feeling quite good - the congestion is almost totally gone right now. I'm listening to the sound of traffic outside, and it's not bothering me one bit - it normally causes me a lot of discomfort. I'm sucking on the capsules as I type this, and I'm going to keep sucking on them until I run into another "Fragile Moment".
I feel really good today - like some major piece of vasculature has just fixed itself for the most part. This is a weird damn feeling, but a happy one.
