Brain Injury Support Group
Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
Sometimes I was right but I always went overboard on the anger...and that is never okay to me. I continued with many different ways to get rid of all that anger...and Lord knows we have many valid reasons it could be coming from.
I too...felt like 2 different people...Jekyll and Hyde so to speak. It did get better with time, practice and effort on my part.
Finally at 4 years post...I can control my anger. I still get angry but I have control over what comes out during that emotion. Don't get me wrong...I'm far from perfect, I still do lose it once in a while but a whole lot less than in the beginning.
Good luck to you on winning this one!!
4+ years since TBI and I also only have partial use of my right side. I admit my behavior is bizarre especially when I am very tired.
Don't waste your time and money on anger management, the only own who profits from it are the ones we have to pay money to.
I try to avoid situations where I get 'angry'.
I found it was often because people just don't understand or make stupid remarks. I think i have just learned to accept people are as they are. Sometimes still and I am a few years out I still when on my own think about something someone said and I think of the things I could say back to them but thankfully now I can stop and just think they don't get it and thats life. I don't want to stoop to their level.
If people wanted to understand better I am sure they could make the effort and if they don't want too well thats too bad.
I can occasionally still snap but don't get so mad anymore and if I make a stupid remark I'll apologise when I can.
I think in time you will get better and will also learn that some people will just ever get it and what you do with them is up to you. I don't have too much time for these people and when I see them I almost expect something stupid to be said which stops me from getting angry. We can't do much about peoples ignorance.
You will get more control over your anger in time.
Things won't improve as drastically as they did perhaps in the first year but they do still get better.
We can always improve and get better and learn new tricks new ways to do things. You will always find new ways to deal with yourself and handle yourself around others. You will get better and as someone else said you may well still have your moments you are only human lets not forget but you will find better ways to deal with your emotions. I promise
