Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
Hi- I was wondering if anyone had been put on either/both of these meds for a MTBI? I had my fall in May, 2009, and still have problems in concentration, memory, balance, dizziness. My neurologist is trying to see if the adderal will help with my concentration problems, and if the aricept will help with the memory problems. If anyone has been treated this way, what were your results-good or bad. Thanks, and God Bless.

I'm currently taking both medications. I was first gave 5 mg of aricept after memory problems from my injury and later the dose was increased to 10 mg. About four months ago my Dr. added the Adderall XR 25mg. At one point he switched me to the 2 X daily dosage at a lower mg. but I kept forgetting to take the second dose and it just wasn't working for me. Presently I'm taking the 10 mg. of aricept and 25 mg. of the Adderall XR. They both are working well for me. Every now and then I'll stop the aricept to see if I really need it - after about 5 days or so, I'm like, 'Yes I still need it.' And the Adderall - really keeps me focused. If you don't need it - you'll know. My neurologist is thinking of switching the aricept to a different type of drug that is slow released (a patch) I don't remember the name of the medication. I hope this information helped. What are are you using now?

I see this has been inactive for a long time but I have just started with this combination of meds.....I suppose it is helping but I have such high expectations for how I want things to be that nothing short of a cure would be good enough for me but I guess one of the symptoms of TBI is unrealistic expectations....go figure. The aricept knocks me out. I nearly fell asleep at work from it and I am on thin ice there. Is anyone else using these drugs?

My daugthter takes adderal. She had traumatic brain injuries (2 places in her brain from being hit by a car). The adderal helps her stay more focused. She is able to take one class per semester in college now. She takes something else that is an amphetamine which helps control the central nervous system. Neither she nor I like her taking them, but we know it is the best thing for her while she is still healing and trying to keep up with her life. Otherwise, she would be nervous and anxious and unable to focus on things that are important.

Hi, I am very sensitive to meds, I take an anti-seizure med ( low dose) that helps keep my brain and nervous/system calm and helps with sleep. It can make me tired during the day, but I have learned to deal with it. I am prone to depression both before and after brain injury, but I can not take depression meds, they make me manic. Enough sleep is absolutely the most important thing for me. Good luck!
