I just have to move out of my home and into a friend house. While it was trying to pack all my treasures I have gathered I realized I had 10 good size boxes filled with books! Everything from the books my kids had when they were young to cookbooks, history, how toobooks,(even a set of encyclopedias from 1968, oh that would make it 12 boxes. I foud books everywhere. And I had read them all!
Everyone thinks I am crazy, suggested I give them away. I love my books and I am keeping all of them. Maybe the encyclopdia can go but ..not the rest.
Does anyone else hoard books? I am upset I cant display them anymore.
some people open a book exchange shop because they are hoarders of books. i have too many myself. but i like them. they are like old friends. i get a lot from having them. books are beautiful.
I was getting to know a woman last year. One day she was looking around my home with it's bookshelves and piles of books and she said, somewhat sniffily, " I don't know how people find the time to read."
We didn't become friends. Absolutely nothing in common.
I used to have lots of books but over the years passed them on to charities or if a friend liked a particular book. I just found that storing and transporting them so difficult. Transporting them was awful, books are so heavy if you have to lift them. Now my books are from the library, much cheaper too although annoying if I have to wait for a popular book.
Yesss. I'm a total book junkie. I would love to have just a room devoted to books in the house... a cool library with the sliding ladders and everything!
My whole family hoards books! It gets a little extreme, so we take them to a charity used book barn that we know of. The books are sold at a nominal cost, the money goes to charity. However... we usually find some More books there, and so the problem continues... :)
I know this is an old, old post but I just joined this group and this one caught my eye. I too am a book-aholic. I have <literally> <no double pun intended> about 5,000 books. When I moved homes last year the movers said they had *never* moved anyone with so many boxes labelled "books." In my admittedly-weak defense, at one time I did own a used books store and still have some of the leftover stock. But my own personal collection is almost equally out of control. I might open another bookstore soon, I'm getting laid off and, hey, I have the stock anyway!
I too am a book collector. My bedroom doubles as a library. I actually need a ladder to get to the books on the upper shelves. I sell some back to the used booksores, but there is a lot of them that I would never give up. (I don't even want to imagine having a fire!!)
Thanks
