Saturday after work I went to the grocery store. I found a lot of great deals in produce, got my almond milk and cottage cheese from the dairy Dept, and was just heading down the aisle that has the jams and preserves because we were out, when I noticed 2 big ugly dudes following me. At first I thought maybe my cart was in their way, so I moved it. But no, they were making fun of me for being fat.
The thing is, I am not THAT fat. There are tons of people in my area who are morbidly obese, my county is one of the fattest and unhealthiest in the state. And my cart was full of healthy stuff!
But I overheard them making comments about fat girls being gross. And the one guy was like would you hit that? And the other one was like eeww no way. I don't even remember what all they said, I tried not to listen and just do my shopping.
These dudes followed me thru 2 aisles, making comments like what they thought I was thinking, apparently fat girls have really stupid thoughts and can't cook. I was about to cry until I saw my friend Allison was there so I went and talked to her for awhile and they left.
It's just best to ignore people like that. I feel like if I said anything, I would just look trashy then they would make fun of me worse and claim I imagined it. I know enough to remain silent from being bullied in highschool.
It's just really shitty that grown ass men still think they can act like that. I did absolutely nothing to attract that kind of attention other than have a body type most people think is disgusting. I was even still wearing my work clothes, which were nice conservative bank lady attire. There was no reason for them to act that way other than they are buffoons.
One time I was in the store buying light bulbs. This old man next to me said, "Oh, you have a baby in your tummy." I about died and completely shut down instead and saying sticking up for myself. I told him that I didn't, and he said, "You must just have a tummy then." He touched my stomach!! I wanted to go home and cry.
Now I'm paranoid and think that everything feels the same way. I go around armed with a rebuttal just in case it happens again. Sad, I know.
