It is scarey no matter what the age, stage or loss.
But I believe that thru my struggles and trials, God is using me to inspire and strenghen others. To encourage and be used for God's glory to iumpower others to not give up, and to believe in themselves.

I am now (well let's just say) a little older! I had a progressive loss of vision as they told me I would. It wasn't the best thing that ever happened to me, but I dealt! I managed to go to college and get my Bachelor's in Fine Art and became a sculptor of all things! A year and a half ago though, I went in for a routine eye exam and was shocked when the doctor told me I might not have Stargardt's. I'm thinking "What? I'm cured? Why does my vision still stink?" He told me I might have a different more rare disease called Cone Rod dystrophy. Oh, thank you very little!
Needless to say I went through some grieving. I took some time to think about a future without any sight - scary! Then, I started to make some plans for just in case! It's taken me awhile, but I'm up and running now. Back to sculpting and teaching. Living one day at a time.
I got involved with a support group and have made some friends who really help. My friends and family are great, but they will never fully understand the struggles I face. It's good to someone you can whine and laugh with. I also meet another person this website that I message on a regular basis. I think support is the key!
I would encourage you to find others who are struggling with vision loss and talk it out, shout it out, cry it out, laugh it out. You'll be amazed at what you can learn about yourself and others and the resources out there to help all of us. Feel free to contact me anytime!
