I am very worried and stressed out about my mom. About 2 months ago she started having trouble walking and her legs started to give out on her without reason. The doctors cannot figure out what is going on. Things have just gotten worse. She has fallen several times and could not get up and had to call the fire department. She is temporarily living with my family because she cannot walk or take care of herself. The hospital sent her home when she could not walk at all. They knew she lived alone.
I am at a loss to what to do to help. She has an appointment with her primary care doctor on January 6th. I think it has come to the point where she will need to go into a assisted living place or a nursing home. Those options look like the best things for her but then we have to worry about the cost and she is on a fixed income.
All of this is very overwhelming and I feel like I am starting to spiral into a deep depression. Any advice would be appreciated.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

My Mom has dementia. My sister and I watched for 3 years while my Mom got worse and worse, but resisted all attempts at helping her. Mom insisted she was fine.
That is until she got so bad with memory loss, even her Dr had to agree she needed to live at Assited Living .
Assisted Living Facilities are HUGELY expensive.
If your Mom is on a fixed income and has assets less than 2000 $, you can apply for Medicade. Medicade will pay for a Skilled Nursing Home.
SNH are not as nice or attractive as Assisted Living, but your Mom will be well cared for and safe. That is the most important thing.
Wishing you all the best
dd gave you some good advice.
I'm so sorry that you're all going through this...I've been there and no how painful it is
You and your mom are in my prayers...xo
I'm so sorry you're going through this. You've done well to have appointments with social services. They may be able to find assistance with care. Am I correct to assume you'll be with her at her Dr appointment? Urge the Dr to investigate further as to why her legs are giving out. Falls can be dangerous for elderly people...
It's important that you take care of ((you)) during this time. However difficult it is, remember to keep as scheduled a regime as you can with meds, sleep, and your appointments. There also my be respite care available. Caretaking can be taxing for anyone, let alone if you're bipolar.
Prayers for you during this stressful time.
