I'm attempting to quit this damn habit of mine.
I know that a higher rate of smokers among people who have a mental illness.
I'm just one of the statistics.
I want to quit!!! This time for good!!!
Who has here has been successful at quitting? Any tips?? Besides the obvious of simply not smoking?
Dealing with withdrawals is the hardest for me for my anxiety levels go through the roof, and it seems the only thing to help is to light a cigarette.
What can I do about the anxiety/withdrawals?

I had been having Bowen therapy for other issues when I gave up and it seemed to have the side effect of making the quitting less stressful. I also had just had a complete change of environment so don't know if that helped. It all seemed too easy after so many failed attempts before but I am really pleased. Good luck with your attempt. I hope you have a successful outcome.

e-cigarettes - the best thing since sliced bread. I haven't smoked a cigarette for over two years. and they are so much cheaper than smoking the real thing.

I've tried the vapour cigarettes and the funny thing is I can't inhale them, something to do with the moisture doesn't agree with my lungs. If only it was the same with smokes.

I quit 2 years ago in January ... I think the thing that made it 'easier' for me was to accept that I was a total addict and it was going to be hard as hell and it was via cravings and anxiety for a couple of months... I was always coming up with a reason for having just one more....as all addicts do... I just decided I'm going to go through it and I am not going to give in to the addiction talking to me... I think it's the thing that I am most proud of now... I feel so much better... It is so worth it sweetie... You can do this to... Just accept that it will be tough for a while but then it's not... Big hug....xo

I bought 2 cartons of cigarettes and then started cutting back on how many I smoked a day. First, I stopped smoking first thing in the morning. Then I stopped smoking when I walked the dog. Stopped smoking right after a meal or when I drank coffee. Gradually I cut down to only 1 cigarette a day. When My cartons were gone I was ready to quit. I bought some patches and cut them in half and used them for 3 weeks and then just stopped. It worked for me. You really have to want to quit. Good luck.

I quit and it is because my husband was going to divorce me over it.

I tapered down slowly. It was the cost that forced me to quit.

I quit 15 years ago and had many reasons and excuses to start again but I didn't. I'm not saying it's easy because it isn't but the physical withdrawals only last 3 days and then it becomes all up to you. Drink A LOT of water, when you get anxious, go for a walk, and realize why you are having anxiety and talk yourself down. Chew gum and start exercising. I actually lost 5 pounds when I quit because I was walking so much. If you need any support at all, just give me a ring!! Hugs

I quit Nov 1, 2015. It's hard but using the lozenges instead of the patches helped me do it. The hardest time was in the morning when I took my coffee and ciggarettes out to the patio to have a smoke or 4 and the patches just didn't work fast enough. I'm talking smoking at 5a.m. Now I never go to the patio or I would immediately crave a cigg. The patches didn't work that well and I used to fall asleep with them still on and just stick another one on in it's place. Try the lozenges!

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.
