Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

What in your opinion warrants a voluntary hospitalization?
I'm in a bad place, I feel like I've been trying so hard at pretending to be fine and meeting all my normal pre bipolar shit storm demands that I'm just mentally exhausted. I feel hopeless, like every day is the same pain and im so tired of fighting. I'm starting to truly doubt my ability to keep up the charade of being "fine" and continuing to work and care for the kids and just generally function. It all just feels like too much. I'm only about 2 months out from a severe mania and newly diagnosed Bipolar 1, I've read it can take months or even a year for your brain to recover from a manic episode. And I'm still getting my meds right so im definitely not considering myself stable. I've been seeing a NP and the Dr at my pdoc every 1-2 weeks.
I feel like hospitalization would help but I'm reluctant to say things are bad enough for something that feels so drastic and something I could cycle out of tomorrow.

Hey all, i know its been quite awhile since i posted on here. Its been a summer all right. Its been something else........... You know how they say not to open the can of worms? Well a few months ago i decided to find out what my due date would have been for my first baby, the one conceived by r***. My baby would have been due on March 4th of 2006. They would be 20 years old. I was R**** on June...

It took me a long time to get stable but it's possible - keep your support circle in the loop- ((hugs)) polar'
You could talk with your doctor about feeling worse and going inpatient and if you ever need to please go to emerg...
Will your doctor refer you to Community Health?.... a mental health nurse could then see you at home?
Is there a supportive program that you could partake in?
Do you need to be off of work for a period of time?
SunCloud, I'm not suicidal although I definitely have moments of passive ideation.
I'd love to be able to take time off from work but I'd lose my job.
I guess for now I will continue the struggle and try to stay afloat.
If my depression is so deep I've not made it out of bed for over a week, not showered, not ate, not been to work, etc.
If I find myself taking all 22 bottles of my medications and arranging the pills in groups around me on my bed into piles that would kill me fastest.
If I bounce over to being so manic I'm boucing off the walls, screaming up and down the roads in my car with music blasting, running into the store to buy stuff....but have no wallet....
If I just start randomly painting the house, knocking holes in walls, tearing things apart, because its time to redecorate....
Those are the things that I do that generally tell me its time to go check into the hospital. I call my oldest son and he takes me. Luckily, by the Grace of God, and because I adamantly work my Treatment Plan, I've not had to go In-Patient since 2010. I was so suicidally depressed at that point I did nothing but lay in a bed for 3 weeks before my son took me in, I was In-patient for 3 months and the only thing that saved my life was ECT. I'd become Medication tolerant, nothing worked, I'd been in Therapy multiple times a month every month for 20 years. I had/have an excellent, wonderful Pdoc, but nothing worked anymore. So I did 3 cycles of ECT, 3 days a week every week for 3 months. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done, and I was terrified to do it. But it gave me my life back.
I'm never scared to go In-patient, my hospital knows me well from Medical Illness/Genetic Diseases/31 Surgeries and Mental Illness. It is a very nice hospital with great nurses and Dr.'s. Great private rooms on the Psych Floors. So I'm never worried or scared to go in if I have to, I'm just glad I've not had to in quite a while. I've been a patient in every Department of that Hospital at one time or another.
If you think that your out-patient treatment isn't working and your not doing well, a trip to the ER is only a couple of hours out of your life. You'd rather be safe than sorry, right. Never think your a bother, or your wasting someones time, if you think you need to go to the hospital, please, go to the hospital and let them check you.
If I'd have not went in 2010, I'd have been dead.
Take care, and you know if you ever need to talk or vent or yell.....you can message me.
