what meds do you think should be banned for use on bipolar people i think in my opinion the last 2 i was on should be, lithium and risperdal

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. For many it's been a lifesaver and as it was the first medication for use with Bipolar some members here have been on it for decades.
It needs to be monitored though via blood tests and it dosen't work for everyone.
I don't think it should be banned. I don't know enough about the other one.
Generally all these meds have uses - it's a matter of finding the right med for individuals.
We all have different body chemistries therefore we all react differently to each medication.
I know it works for some but I guess it just didn't like me
As I am already borderline diabetic and take blood pressure meds, cholesterol, blood thinners, etc. I chose to refuse and educate.
As much as I am adverse to much meds I do take the one's that keep me alive. My mental issues are mine and for those who choose to have dealings with me. They don't need to know though and it rarely shows, with or without medication.
I've learned enough here to know that I would not advocate the banning of any as I have seen testimony to both the good and bad of each here.
sure, a year later my bloodwork came back `pre-diabetic' and i had to drop it, but i wouldn't be here now without risperdal. no doubt about it.
personally, the whole benzodiazepam family of meds are the one's that worry me (and that i see here, A LOT of people take constantly)

I don't think they should be on the market at all.
All meds have their purpose. All people react differently to any given a med. If we go by what anyone person thinks or has had an issue with a med, then there would be none on market, even the over the counter ones.
You need to weigh risk vs reward. You need to be observent of the side effect. Unfortunatly we can not tell who will get what side effect. Some "side effects" are not "bad" since the med can be perscribe for that effect. I am thinking Remeron for eating dissorders and other meds for sleep effect, instead of giving 1 for BP and 1 for sleep, the person my get by with the 1 at night if there is a sleep effect.
Even one of the worse drugs in history, thalidomide, has its uses even today and can be a life saver.
There are 0 drugs out there, both prescribed and over the counter that have 0 side effects for the entire human population. Even in double blind studies, pacebo, pill has been shown to give side effects. It is just part of the wonderfull, exciting, and frustrating world of body chemistry.
I know older people who are on them forever and basically they are addicted...but in the UK you usually can't get more than 10-14 days script if you are younger and it doesn't get repeated.
