Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
So I think that you're asking if your problem was due to a chemical imbalance or the emotions you went through during the breakup. I can't really answer that, but it's possible that the emotions led to a longer lasting chemical imbalance. People like us are prone to depression or mania with highly emotional events.
If you're still feeling depressed, a med change may be needed. I recommend that you call your pdoc.
All feelings-no matter what generates them- are natural and valid. Life events can trigger dysregulation of emotions. Perhaps our brains are triggered into dysregulation for good reasons. Or sometimes it happens because we refuse to reduce our vulnerability ( no sleep, no regular meds schedule, poor eating habits/ haywire blood sugar, not treating sickness, or taking in mind altering alcohol and or drugs), sometimes cognitive thinking errors are being used that aggravate the mind, sometimes we don't understand how to use our logical mind/ emotional mind in unison. So it's complicated.
When trying a method other than meds...
If you can tune into your spirit and let silent awareness be your guide [experience of the present moment] then that means you can try to handle the situation by adjusting your own bodies chemical production [I think] using the well known placebo effect to your advantage.
Interesting topic! :-)
I think that the bodies chemical production is at the trigger of emotions sometimes in thyroid and other conditions, but only have the tiniest understanding there from reading a post fdlstx made about the importance of iodine to thyroid function.
Hope this is helpful in some little way, and i'm glad to hear you are feeling better.
:-)
And yes, it made perfect sense.
Emotional distress can be the culprit of a chemical imbalance.
Likewise a chemical imbalence can exhibit itself as Emotional distress.
So the terms are interchangeable.
Chemical imbalence can be caused by lifestyle choice, age, nutritian
Emotional problems can exhibit by all of the above as well as circumstances in your life, relationships , work, stress, children , financial problems.
