Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

Ok, I have had to call the crises line two nights in a row. I am meeting with a therapist once every two weeks (just started only been 2 x's) And Pdoc the same (she only discusses for 10 min. how the meds are working) I think I have bipolar. This is a typical day for me:
Fine when I first get up. leveled mood
start getting really aggitated when family gets up. I have PTSD, so when somehting is droped I come out of my skin. I can't stand noise either. Thats why I get up at 4:30 in the mornings to have some peaceful normal time. I hybernate to my room where I want to sleep for the next 3 hours.(took my meds before this) Get up nervous and depresses. Wind up getting angry and by evening I am totally trashed into a very deep dark depression where I want to commit suicide or hurt myself somehow. And guess what, I've been alone all day. DH has been taking kids to work with him. I don't answer the phone. I don't like to go anywhere. One day I felt good for about 6 hours and went wild cleaning and rearranging all the furniture. Sometimes I'm so happy I sing and sing. Other times I am so mad I want to pick a fight with someone.
Now, does this sound like Bipolar? I am suppose to see a dr. this morning to get something different for depression before I really mess up. But I want to be tested for Bi-polar. Is there a test? How were you diagnoses?
I've been in the hospital once already and they are talking like they may put me in again today. I just want to know for sure what the heck I have so I can get the proper treatment and start feeling better! I have no energy whatsoever! No desire to do ANYTHING! I feel like I am going crazy and I need help quick!
sorry for ranting!

Def sounds BP to me. You can google Bipolar Disorder and you will get a link to a couple of questionaires. At the end of those, you can get instant results as to the likelihood of your having the disorder. You may already know that there isn't currently a definitive medical test, like an MRI, etc that will diagnose this, so the personality tests are the primary indicator. You may find it helpful to keep a journal that logs your moods and behavior changes during each "pole". Your specific pattern is also very key in making a proper Dx. I wish you the best, and if you would like to talk, message me anytime! Hugs~Alicia

There is no test for bipolar. You need a full psychiatric work-up to diagnose it properly. There are some physical illnesses that can mimic it as well, and these should be ruled out by your doctors.

Sounds like a mixed episode of bipolar disorder to me. Work closely with your tdoc and pdoc, they can help you figure it out. I just came out of a cycle exactly as you explained. I was in a mixed cycle and my pdoc changed my meds. I feel so much better now. I hope you figure it out honey. There is no test really, just review of your life and moods and emotions. Journal daily, it will help you and your docs. Luv and hugs

I agree with #3. You would need to be evaluated be a pdoc.
