I keep my stress level to a minimum. I do not associate with people that upset me to often, and try to take a lot of time by myself. Exercise helps a lot when one is feeling too much stress or energy. It can be as little as a walk or more. That all depends on you, always take your meds and get the right amount of sleep. When I do not sleep right it can always lead to problems. I live a lone so it make these things much easer for me to accomplish. When I was married and had children at home it was harder. One of the reasons I finely left my husband of 17 years was because his lack of support cause my bp to act up often. Children however are a different story and even today issues with them can cause me to get crazy. However Ive learned not to take everything they do personally and remind myself that I can not control their lives therefore they will have to work on their own issue. I help when I can and back off when it gets to be too much for me.

i take risperdal so i don't have them, or else they are so mild i can enjoy them.

I take lithium and it works. I try to keep the stress down, eat right and sleep well.
But I tried all that stuff before and without lithium it didn't work. It's a serious situation and calls for serious methods!

So far my lithium and my seroquel combination have kept my manic behaviour to a minimum.

I will take an extra 25mg or so of seroquel when I am anxious.

Great paragraph, you could not have said it better, but I do need Lithium to help and then sometimes I still get a little hyper. I take advantage of it and get all my cleaning done.

i agree with dladydi333 re: stresss and sleep. and with shellwantstoknow about taking some seroquel when you feel it coming on - also a little respiridol sometimes helps - although it has knocked me out for a day or so. avoid alcohol, sugar, citrus and tomatoes. one day a few years ago i had a afternoon party with sangria and gazpacho. my roommate noticed I was all amped and manicy and made me take a pill. it was all due to what i have taken in. now i sometimes take an extra dose of trileptal (all i'm on now) when i know i'm getting too amped up! good luck!

I take lithium and effexor. I often close the door and go to bed and try to avoid everyone. Unfornately my son will come in and nag me for something and he knows how to unlock the door. I don't do this too often with him. Only when I have a migrane.
