That doesnt make sense, I dont think it would work that well right away unless the goal is just to knock you out.

For 'acute mania'...seroquel isn't usually the first port of call, actually?

The antipsychotics indicated for acute mania are olanzapine, risperdal (sometimes the old school ones too). At least, in my experience & my bp1 relatives & everything I've ever heard!

ok just didnt know, I was assuming Haldol would do the trick.

I take it occaisionally to get to sleep or if I'm feeling wacky.

I don't have zyprexa or risperdal.....all I have is Seroquel, and my usual meds, of course, but they aren't cutting it right now.

I thought it would be of benefit to take a seroquel and hopfeully call it a night.

No I had to take mine on a daily basis.

I take it on a sliding scale.. so I take a regular dose but if I need more I can take it up to a given amount.. some people do just take it for sleeplessness.. it does have a sedating effect.. I dont think it would be a prn for psychosis but perhaps for other symptoms x

What is "acute mania" ?......Is that a term your dr. used? I haven't heard of it before?? ....bipolar mania could be deemed acute, because it is not chronic, a constant and indefinite state. However, bipolar is chronic, and mania is a transient part of it. In order to keep both your depressive and manic episodes under control, the meds need to be taken all the time. It takes most of us a while to get that figured out.

Acute mania is a sudden onset of bipolar mania stafish. I don't understand pasts of your post? But I just thought I'd let ya know what it meant. ox

I have an anti-psychotic on an "as needed" basis. I'm taking one of the old school anti-psychotics though.

There is some debate about the efficacy of this among the pdocs I have consulted, but there are some other issues that make meds complicated for me.
