I'm trying to avoid FB because it is an addiction.

Any advice?

I quit FB. Just go away and stay away and see how many people stay in touch via email. For me it was none.

I have read a few studies that concluded fb caused unhappiness....

Anyways, you seem to be talking about compulsive use, not unhappiness...so yeah, I just got rid of my page....

I just stopped visiting it daily for awhile and tried journaling and visited DS instead. Technology is too stimulating for me, and for many non-bipolar people too! Facebook is just silly sometimes. I'm using it in a healthy way now, many months later.
