Trazadone is one of my meds which is a sleep aid. My DR upped me from 2 at night to help sleep to 6 taken throughout the day. At 1st I was leery about taking 1 when I got up in the morning but they really seem to help by taking every few hours for the manic thing. Has anyone ever been put on them like this?

I was on Trazadone for anxiety. Mainly it made me very tired. I was often napping then. And it didn't really effectively treat my anxiety either. I had to take it all the time so I was always sleepy.

Trazadone is not a sleep aid, it is an Anti-Depressant that Pdocs, Dr.'s use off-label as a sleep aid. Unfortunately psych meds like Anti-depressants are designed to have the side effects, like drowsiness, wear off over time so that people can successfully keep taking them. Thus, they rarely work as a longterm sleep aid.

They do often work as what they were created for, which is an Anti-Depressant....your Dr. is using them as a med for your depression and manic issues. You say 6 pills, but you don't say the dosage. The usual max outpatient dosage for depression is 400mg, so depending on what mg. pill your using, you could be perfectly within the normal range. These are short acting meds, so taking them every few hours can be normal.

I take 100mg. at night and it helps me sleep. Most of the time.
If I'm very stressed or anxious it doesn't work and I have to take an Ambien.
