Tired of being sick

I am struggling with my wife's son and wife's attitude toward mental illness. Every time there is a confrontation of them using me they bring up...are you taking your meds?...do you need the hospital?...it makes me sick because many of my caregivers jsut say don't give in but they keep bringing it up...for example I caught them using our car without permission and I was threatened with a welfare check...I just gave them the phone and said go ahead...they said we'll pass this time...I am frustrated...my wife knows what they are doing but tolerates it because he is her favorite son...I fear that it will eventually lead to divorce...we seperated last year for about 2 months and even though I love my wife...I am tired of the blackmail.

I take it, they are your step children?
Either way, your being bullied and somewhat dictated to. Either sit down with them and explain your thoughts and what SHOULD be done. Or tell your wife you can't live like that. Your not one of the kids, your an adult man. And you have the right to set down some rules too.

Alot of people just automatically assume were "having an episode" or "off our meds" when we have even a justifiable, normal response to things. We're allowed to have whatever emotion a non-mentally ill person would have in any given situation, it's not like because we have to be medicated to even out the edges that we're supposed to be mellow and calm like a zombie all the time. And it hurts even more when a loved one has this attitude.

I'm sorry you're going through this, maybe try calmly re-explaining yourself when you're not in the midst of a stressful reactive situation? But I realize sometimes people's minds cant be changed and the stigma towards mental illness is something that unfortunately still exists.

The reason I'm asking is that it sounds like a po'd response..... I would have a family talk when things are calm

This isn't reasonable ….. This is stigma at it's finest from people that should be caring about you and treating you with respect …… Big hug.....xo

I would put it out there that you won't tolerate this type of treatment anymore from those that you 'should' be able to trust

I need to remember to be clear...it was my step-son and his wife that 'borrowed ' the car...my wife, being co-owner, uses it as she wishes.

This is unfortunate. My parents monitor my meds and make sure I take them so there’s never been question wether I take them or not. Being constantly asked if I’m taking my meds would probably piss me off. Have you talked to your wife about the son taking the car? I mean, you could legally report it stolen if he takes it again without permission. Ima Rory you’re dealing with this mess

    Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.
