Won't go into detail, but I am almost fired over a "my word against theirs" situation. It's extremely difficult, because during the alleged investigation I was asked very specific questions, never given full information about what they were interested in, etc. When I couldn't come up with an answer after one second (probably racing thoughts, but not major) I couldn't and they declared me to be a liar who can't come up with a straight answer. I have since obtained more information that led me to know I really was not responsible (someone else lied without realizing what their lie meant), but they won't hear of it and are "case closed stop lying".

I was doing well. I was doing great at this job even. Now suddenly through no fault of my own, they have lost all trust in me.

I have also heard from others that my confidence has come off as delusional, and that my positive attitude has been regarded as fake.

The closest metaphor I can come up with is a Tsunami. Slow but steady rise, staying at that high for a nice long time, then crashing into the coast suddenly, violently, and it just won't stop being destructive.

All because somebody lied.
