I've been on a number of different meds throughout my life, and a majority of them had the side effect of drowsiness. Sometimes it lessens as your body adjusts to it, but there have been meds i ended up taking strictly at night time. Have you tried taking it ar night before bed? I know that really helped me.

And sometimes if the dose is too high for certian meds it can make you super sleepy.

But since you are just starting it I wouldn't be concerned unless it is interfering with your daily life. Sometimes just giving your body time to adjust can do wonders. But I would certainly talk to your doc if it is too much or if you are concerned.

Sending you support during this time of transition. Switching meds is always nerve wracking for me, so I can understand if you are feeling overwhelmed. Hang in there.

I've always been on the hyper side. Meds will speed me up, unless they are specifically for sleep, and sometimes not then.

If you’re new to being bipolar you may have to switch meds to find the combination that works best for you. I take my meds at night because of the drowsy feeling. Are you bipolar 1 or 2 ? I’m bipolar 2 and we have more depression than mania and most mania is hypomania. Do talk to your doctor about how your meds are making you feel , they are the ones to really help you.

Quite often there's a period of getting used to a new med.... That may well pass within a few weeks.....xo

I know it’s been recommended to others here, but it’s a good idea to keep a sort of med journal as you try medications and especially as you work with your docs on dosages, and times you take them,,etc. There is no magic fix or bloodwork or anything practical to find the right cocktail so it unfortunately becomes a big part of managing the illness.
