Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
It was because the medicine lowered their Potassium too much.
And if you have really LOW blood pressure, you can become dizzy and pass out, if you stand too quickly.
Whatever is going on with you, it's sure worth checking out with a doctor!!!!
Good luck!!! I hope you're okay!!!! (((((Hugs)))))
Yeh I have to also mention blood presure. If it gets to low you will passout. This happened to my father. Thought he was having a stroke but it turned out to be just blood pressure.
Lithium and paxil will not make you black out. You need to be checked out. I'm seriously worried about you. Please go to the doc.

Could be orthostatic hypotension (blood pressure may drop immediately upon standing, or any time during the first couple of minutes after standing), some antidepressants can cause this.
Carla and Mage are precisely correct that meds can cause it, but if by meds, I would expect the condition to persist. One cause of TRANSIENT (temporary) hypovolemia is positional hypovolemia - from simply rising too quickly from bed or seated position.
YOU SHOULD STILL GET CHECKED OUT!!
A FEW other COMMON causes of loss of consciousness are:
- meds
- hypo- or hyperglycemia (High or low blood sugar levels)
- Transient Ischemic Attack (temporary occlusion of a blood vessel in the brain - a 'mini-stroke') Significant because it is a sign of potential future major stroke.
- Internal bleeding in the intestinal tract (Gastro-intestinal or GI Bleed)
See an MD - even an urgent care clinic (we call them "Doc-in-a-box" or "McDoctors office) at your next opportunity for a definitive diagnosis. They will ask if you've vomited what looks like 'coffee grounds' (bleeding into the stomach) or having black or tarry looking stool (bleeding into the intestinal tract) To rule out GI Bleed, the Doctor will take a stool sample (yes, with the finger of a gloved hand where you'd rather prefer he not place it) and smear it on a card treated with chemicals that change color in the presence of blood. DON'T fear this test - It is VERY important to rule out GI Bleed! Besides, he will be gentle. I promise. LOL :)
Is it possible you've got the blood levels of Lithium out of wack. Diarreah? Not drinking enough fluid? Hot weather? If there is too much Lithium in the blood compared to your hydration level, this can happen. And on that hot day, I drank LITRES of water, but because it was so hot, I couldn't get enough in for what I was sweating away.
If so, start drinking heaps of water and if you can't get to a doctor or ER unitil tomorrow, miss your next Lithium dose -I'd probably do that either way - Lithium Toxicity can be fatal.
