I won't go into all the details of why I'm looking for a new one, I think I've made the best choice in doing so. How do I go about finding a new therapist? Is it just a trial and error thing or is there a resource out there that really helps? I was referred to the one I have now from the hospital when I was there.

I've now been advised to see a therapist at least once a week maybe even twice a week...

How often do you see your therapist?

I have found mine by a referral from my md I have been going to for a long time. Then I found my pdoc frommy tdoc.

I see my tdoc 1 a week and my pdoc 3 a year
My pdoc doesnt take my ins so I have to pay him up front but he prescribes my meds so I have to see him some time!!!!

I had to see a therapist once and sometimes twice a week depending on what I am going through. I found my therapist from a list that my psychiatrist gave me. My therapist was really good to me. She specialize in people with bipolar. Maybe you can find out what the therapist specialize in before you go to them. I wish you the best and I hope it works out for you.

I see my therapist every other week. I have been in weekly therapy in the past, but don't need it that much now. Plus I have a 30.00 copay and that gets expensive when you are on SSDI. Recently my medicare advantage plan changed and my old therapist doesn't accept the new one. She recommended another therapist in her office that I can go to and i'm going to go see her next week. We'll see how it goes.

I found my tdoc through a referral when I was in a partial hospital program. I found my last therapist through trial and error, with several different phone calls.

I see my tdoc 1x a week, but I am in group therapy 2x a week.

The frequence of my pdoc appointments vary based on how I'm doing.

I never got much our of therapy because I would go once or twice and then wouldn't go again for several months. It wasn't until I started going every couple of weeks that I was actually able to get more out of it. I feel lucky to have found a counselor I trust.

I usually find mine in homeless shelthers. It is amazing how many people there think they are either God or a therapist.

I see mine once I just havent figured out the best way to ask to see her more but I think I need it.

I always go to psychologytoday.com to find therapists / doctors. You can look them up by area and specialty and each profile shows what they deal with, insurance, education all that and its free.

When I had a situation last year and needed to change pdocs, I got a list of docs on my insurance list. I called several of them, made sure they were taking new patients and made first time appointments with three of those. After meeting with each of the three once, I thought I liked one the most and went to see him again before making the final decision to chose him. I've been seeing him twice a month.

I started out at once a week, went to seeing her every 2 weeks for a good 6 months but I am back to once a week again.

I think it just depends on what is going on with you, and what the two of you may be dealing with together. :)

"This might sound strange but my Mom was my first therapist...Yet within a week we decided to find someone else. But in a pinch she was only a phone call away. Now That she's gone I find it hard to go to a therapist..In time I'm sure I will start again"

Happy Tuesday. I only have a few tasks today. I'm currently enjoying my coffee and checking social media and emails. It's gonna be almost 90 degrees today so I have to monitor the dogs outside activities How's Tuesday looking for you?
