Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

The gist of it is (google it if you wish) basically that.... people who suffer from chronic conditions, including mental conditions such as bipolar disorder and autism, and physical conditions such as MS and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, have a set amount of "spoons" (as determined by the individual) at the beginning of each day, and mundane tasks such as eating meals, taking a shower, doing one chore, getting groceries, going to a class, getting into an argument, etc. Can take away a "spoon", or several.

(There was a controversy surrounding the creator of Spoon Theory using it for profit, many of the tumblrers who use the system know this, but the system is a good way of explaining our illness(es) and how it/they affect our energy levels to able-bodied people, so we still use it.)

I wish this were more widely used/understood, and were part of common lay terms. It makes explaining life with an illness (and depression in particular!) SO. MUCH. SIMPLER.
What takes away/gives you "spoons"?????
For most people, it's understood that sleeping and waking up re-stocks one's daily supply of spoons, but for people with sleep disorders such as insomnia and sleep apnea, this isn't always true.
For me, some things that deplete my spoons are.....
-fights with me mum (or anyone), a BIG one
-unstable sleep patterns
-not having enough medicine
-just depression in general
I just went like 2 weeks without washing my hair, ugh. Disgusting. Partly it was because of pain (more on that in a minute). But really, I just had no energy at all. It took on this really gross, waxy texture, and was actually 2 or 3 shades darker at the roots, the ends were all wiry and straw-like, so they were 1-2 shades lighter, and so it looked like a nasty rendition of the "ombre" trend.
Luckily I've had a few spoons today and yesterday. I cleaned myself up. My favourite ER nurse, Allen, said I looked a lot better than I usually do when I come in.
But there are a lot of days where I just have 0 spoons from beginning to end, or maybe like, one.
I've been trying to live life on 0 spoons for a really long time, actually. Doing anything is a pain in the ass.

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

It helps to explain to people who have no idea the trouble and strength it takes to get through a day
Gives a whole new meaning to the song Spoon Man by Soundgarden though huh????
SPOON MAAAAAAN, (I dunno the words here) SAVE MEEEEEE
I had to drop the Wellbutrin. It makes me nuttier than a fucking fruitcake. Not every time I take a dose, but almost every time.
More like metaphor surely?
And a metaphor that is harder to understand than the original subject?
