Buying new things is instant gratification... A momentary 'pick me up'

I've just come out of a bankruptcy and it isn't nice... I've screwed my credit for years to come...

Please be careful... If you need to take some steps to stop yourself... This hurts not only in a 'big' way financially...It has a huge impact on how you feel about yourself

I can do and try anything sometimes to try and get out of the depression state. . Sex, food and shopping sprees are often in there.

I used to do the same thing. Letting go of reason, excusing myself from worry, seeing something that caught my eye and getting it...like Suncloud said, was an instant gratification. It didn't last long, a few minutes at best, but it was still a release from the depression. Of course, in the end it made my depression worse and almost cost me my marriage.

With tweaking my meds and the fear of my husband leaving, I managed to reign it in and now spending money on something frivolous is allowed once a month after bills and groceries have been paid for.

It's very hard, but you can do it!

I do the same thing and I've gotten myself in trouble because of it. I'm trying to control it but it's very hard.

lots of people buy stuff when they are depressed. it's not a bipolar thing, it's a people thing.

It doesn't matter if im manic or not im constantly spending money. It always feels better only if for a little while. I put my family in debt because of it.

It's a momentary high out of your depression. Then you crash again.
