So I am 21 years old, working on my master's program at a small school with less than 100 students on campus most of whom are older than me.
In high school, I was not the most popular person by any means, but I did have solid group of friends who I did everything with - had lunch together, had parties, etc.
In university I was pretty popular. It seemed like everyone liked me and I was always doing stuff. I was involved with a lot of projects and groups and had a lot of friends.
Now I feel like I don't have any friends. I was dating someone but we broke up for different reasons. I have been feeling really healthy since I started school here a 8 months ago - so it's not like people know me as off the way hyper or as sullen and depressed, but I honestly feel like I don't have one friend. My roomate gets invited to a lot of different events, but no one invites me to go to things. I feel really left out when the other younger students go to things and people don't invite me to tag along. I don't know why they don't invite me - if they don't like my personality or if it's because I'm 6 years younger than them and they just don't feel like they have anything in common with me. Whenever I host parties a lot of people come to them and sometimes I do get invited to things. It's not like they leave me out every single time. But I'm very extroverted and not having any friends or anyone my age to connect with is very difficult on me.
Any advice on how this can get easier?

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I'll have a dinner party, invite people , maybe some do show up..many times most people do not show up
and I never receive return invites
I'm a pretty likeable person, can hold an interesting conversation...I really don't know what the problem is .
I live in a VERY small town..maybe that has something to do with it ...I'm not part of the "In Crowd" ?
I would just concentrate on your studies..you have a whole lot of life ahead of you to connect and make some real friends !
What about joining a club or some type of school activity to meet people..
Maybe you could invite someone you're acquainted with out for lunch or coffee??
Perhaps pull up a seat in a lunchroom or ask to sit with someone you've met..
Someone has to take the lead to start new friendships.. Once you get to know someone a little you're on your way
Great big hug for you...x
For dinners, we have setting arrangements w name cards.
I have hunting n fishing buddys n some diva's na I'm not going to invite someone who lives to shop to hang out oh lets say at Brass pro store or go hunting/fishing w my hunting/fishing n gun range buddys., who going to half to babysit n walk on egg shells.
I'm sure not going to directly or indirectly invite a tatooed face rings baggy pants wearers to formal get together. Like place card sitting what would guest arangements have in common to talk about w ea other. I hope you know what I'm trying to convay.
Now if a freind gets invite to dinner party/social event n host n I somewhat know/know of ea other, n I didn't get invitertation n I wanted to attend ( only if it's going to be quite a few people) I would say something to my freind who recieved an invertation who would call n say something to host n more than likely the host will make arrangements to accomidate me n indirectly invite me. That's how that works.
It doesn't bother me if I don't get a direct or indirect invite when I want.
My friends n I have freinds that we don't want to hang out w ea other certain friends.
That doesn't mean that we're not polite.
I have nothing in common w woman who insist on talking about thier home life or person thinks that WMart has current fashions. A coule mo's ago a someone of a freinds neighbour ( stranger )who shops at WM n want's to hang out in my circle cloths, insisted on going to WM. anywho I went because I had to c if gril was lieing. My friends n I where shocked to c that there really r shoes that soles r glued on :0 lol. I don't want to hear about thier babys poop. N I don't wanted to be seated at same table at dinner party w someone oh lets say lives for tatoos n brags about drinking. Know what I mean.
If u have time n funds u could host something like wine n chesse tasteing party every other mo or every 6 mths, n you could have cook out get togethers or pot luck dinners n if u opt u could find a couple of people to go lets say bowling every other wk.
I enjoy the company of others but I also enjoy my own company.
If you need for certain friend to tell you why she/he didn't invite you to go to a certain get together w couple of other freinds, simple ask her/him w/o offending them n w/o comeing across as being needy.
More than likely she/he will invite you to do more things w her/him/them.
So when I'm better and want friends - there is NO ONE to call... so the lesson I learned in life, from situatins like we are discussing;
If you want friends, you have to be a friend! That means you call them, you invite them anywhere to do anything - if they say "No" you don't take it as the end of the world, or I TRYED - that would be Bullshit - people can say No, and it does not mean they don't like us - or will not play with us at another time...
We make and lose friends and life moves on - but to sit alone, and frown that we don't have friends? That is the chicken or egg stuff..
If you want friends, be a friend - just like on HERE! if you never send a hug or post on others thread - you might be liked, but your not Socializing - making friends! We have to risk being hurt and disappointed, to get big rewards of LIVING a life, with PEOPLE - i.e. Friends..
I'm also on this journey, and I am always rewarded when I put myself out there. When down and depressed, I can sabotage every relationship, and everyone disappoints me..
To finish my rant : ) I want to be nice, and try to understand others - instead of the very human, very needy - always wanting understanding.... you need to understand lots of people feel like you, why don't you try and help someone else? You both benefit!
