I'm not sure if an attorney is any help til ya get denied your first time and appeal it. From what I understand almost everyone gets denied there first time applying,which takes at least 3 months. I am going thru it now. I am sceduled for an appt. with a internal medicine doctor on May 27 that they,Disability set me up with. In the past I have always been just denied,this is the first time there sending me to a doctor. It is a long process and I dont know if an attorney from the beginning can get it going anjy faster or not. And as far as costs I have no idea cuz I have never went that route. Good Luck to you.

when you are initiated you then get a retro check for the entire time that has lapsed since you first applied

how long did the whole process take?

I apply 10 yrs ago and w my atty am still waitin. looking forward to bk pay that I know that state will refuse to pay 10 yrs bk pay.
The federal approved my claim along time again.
State of SC in US maybe useing my $ for shares and realestate and thier personal use, my taxs that Iv piad in isnt helping me compliments of state that I reside in.


Cant you get benifits in your country ?

I got it 1st try....took about 5 months...document everything..ALL your Dr's you've seen, counselors, MD's etc etc..pour your heart out@@

i applied on my own and was denied, got an attorney and it took me 3+ years and i finally got approved. it does take perserverence.

I wonder why some of you got it easier and others took a long time? Is it the documentation?

yes it is the documentation and prof that the bp keeps you from working. They want to see that you have tried EVERYTHING and the cost of the lawyer sometimes takes a % of the back pay payed after the settlement. After you get denied the first time it more then likely will take years.

It depends on what state you apply in whether or not they automatically deny you on the first try. I understood that some lawyers will help you through the entire process, but I didn't hire mine until I was denied.

The appeal went quick and easy. The lawyers only get paid if you do, and they just get a percentage of your settlement. The settlement will include whatever disability money you would have gotten if you were approved the day you applied. In my case it took about a year, so my settlement was rather large.

The worst part is all the doctors they send you to. They will want you to see thier own doctors. If you have several medical conditions you will be sent to several doctors, and for me this can be grueling... the paperwork, the appointments... but if you can make it through that part, then the rest is easier.

One of thier excuses to deny me was that I was not legally blind, even though documentation from thier own eye doctors said that I was. I was also hospitalized twice during the process... and they also tried to say that I didn't have mental illness... so then why did I have to be hospitalized twice? They just ignored those hospitalizations in the final denial.

My case was so overwhelming I never had to go to court. The judge just approved me on the spot.

These stories scare me since I'm also dealing with workman's comp for my neck and arms, in addition to an immigration issue that's not taking my time, but I can't leave the country ( usa ) until it's resolved. so it's on my mind.

I pray I can persevere through this process too.... It's too much to handle for my BP brain

it took me 10 yrs to get it..but things are easier these days if you have documentation tat ur bp..they dont go so much on the phiscal parts..they always find a way gto turn you down..if you can prove that you im capable of work than you got a shot//2 out of 3 get tuned down..i had to see a state doc then he found me disabled with no attorneys..most attorney's wont take cases unless your super bad case.,.i couldnt get one..i got disability never had a attorney..ur allowed to work wile on disability..i havent worked 1 day since been on it..due to bp1..among others..a pdoc can help you..but the way there getting its terrible..pdocs can suck at times goiod luck God bless you my friend

my story...my x needed ssi...i sat down and wrote 9 pages of documentation. i had documents from drs, medical bills, i had everything. i went in there armed to the tee. received first check 3 weeks later. that was 3.5 yrs ago...i think she is still getting it...dont know for sure she is my x and have no contact...all i can say is document everything...bring in a file with more information than they can handle...thats what worked for me...gl

Yes get a Disability lawyer, not just any lawyer. They don't get paid if they don't win your case. A lot does ride on the documentation from your Doctors and whether they are recommending you for disability. You also need to tell the court a lot of things like hallucinating, hearing voices, you keep getting fired because of your illness, ect. The entire process took me about three months.
