After a rather bad manic episode I'm still finding it hard to sleep. The first one or two nights after I started to feel 'normal' I managed a few hours but since then I've been awake pretty much most of the time give or take a few hours here or there.
I'm due to be back in school in 3 hours after a 2 week sick break, but I've been awake the whole night. Is it a possible continuation of mania or is it just that I have problems sleeping? Does this happen to anyone else?

Maybe both? My sleep issues can be off and on - there are times I can do things with very very little sleep - like today I went to an amusement park and only slept 2.5 hours and I am still up.. I don't feel really manic per se, y'know though while maybe I am not full on manic - maybe I am on the hypomanic side of things... Don't you hate it how we just don't really know and second guess ourselves?

It's kind of annoying really. I don't feel tired, but I don't feel manic. I just feel sort of elevated but not full on high. I do hate how we second guess ourselves, my husband's worried about me, he;'s concerned if I go to school I'll push myself too far and end up sick again, but I've just had too much time off to stay home

I know exactly how you're feeling. At times in highschool I'd be up for 4-5 days at a time until my body crashed. It's so difficult to differentiate between normal sleeping trouble and getting into a hypomanic/manic state. What kind of things do you do at night if you can't sleep?

I read books, play online games, watch tv, clean up I do a variety of things it depends on what mood I'm in at that time

Maybe you can't sleep cause you are nerous about going back to school? I know if I had been off two weeks of anything and had to go back it would mess with my sleep.

Even when I'm not in manic state of mind, bed time is very hard for as I still experience rapid thoughts. Pdoc has me on Trazadone, but for me it doesn't help me get to sleep but once I do fall asleep I want to sleep for hours and then wake with a day after hangover feeling.

I tend to just stay up until I can't any longer because I figure that it's useless to try to sleep when I'm not tired enough. But of course, right now, I really want to sleep and probably could, but things have to be done.

I've been having the same problem and I am on 2 different sleeping meds. It takes 4-5 hours for me to feel even close to being tired. Then it takes another hour or two or tossing and turning then i finally fall asleep. But then I am up and down a couple of times during the night so that doesn't help either. I know part of my problem right now is that I am in a manic phase and I have wicked bad insomnia when I am manic. I hope you find some rest tonight though. Wish I could be more help.

I dunno....when I can't sleep well, it usually doesn't last long...my guess is, you might just not quite be back in balance yet. and I think Bronte has a good point, too....maybe anxiety? Try not to do more than you need to for a while, so you have a chance to get both feet on the ground again....
